Cutting that structural bar isn't the best idea though. It will earn you a very serious defect on the spot. It also compromises the structural integrity of the front of the car. Didn't Adrian mean the bumper itself?

I'm pretty sure that is what Adrian means, after all he did build the engine. He said something about the owner doing 12 lap sprints at a track that did not have many straights, hence the large size.

Fair enough... Agreed, that can be a bit of a pain depending on the sandwitch block used.
If you're keeping the water oil heat exchanger, be sure to round off the corners of the sandwitch block than go near the water lines to avoid issues later on.

The car in the picture has quite a bit of fruit under the bonnet.
As you know, if fruit gets too hot it spoils.
So to make it all last in less than ideal conditions, good thermal management is a must.
(Plus the car is returning to Queensland - it's hotter up there)
Oil pressure is not an issue...
As for bumper supports being structural & attracting defects...
I agree, it's plausable you could be defected...
                            But also unlikley...
Further, it's not unusual to see this bar removed completly on some cars.
Turbo DC5's with front mount intercoolers are a good example.
