So over the past 2 weekends I've spent a little bit of time installing the new coilovers. Had a fair bit of trouble with the rear coilovers and their external reservoirs hitting the rear sway bar.. The front's went in with easy however with the reservoirs I pushed them as far towards the chassis as I could, yet the wheel still hits them on full lock. You can see this in the 2nd picture below, unfortunately for now theres nothing I can do, and in the future look into rack stoppers. I do plan to go with a 15x9 rim in the front possibly next year, shall have to wait until then.

Got an assortment pack of these P clips, worked quite nicely to hold the brake line as the coilovers dont come with brackets.

Onto the rear, firstly I picked up some near new yet used hard race rear camber arms as my old skunk2's had been in the car the same length as my old GAB coilovers, and they were destroyed.

And onto this rear sway bar issue.. In the picture below you can see where the sway bar bracket hit reservoir without the endlink bracket even bolted in.. Yez Racing run the same susension and they had this exact same problem, with the only solution being to redrill the lower control arm to lower the endlink. So off we went to redrill the LCA, our new drill press coming handy.

Went back home and installed them, however I still had to raise the car to try fit. You can also see in the photo above the swaybar bushing looking all weird, they came with this whiteline RSB when I bought it second hand. I went about flipping the bushing so the bigger side sat away from the reservoir which did help. In the future I'll get some new bushings.

Now with the car raised there was enough room to fit the endlinks in. There is only a mill or two to spare, I checked how it would sit with the suspension fully compressed and the reservoir moves away from the bracket slightly, so we should be sweet.

This is the height the car now sits, bit higher in the rear than I'd like but oh well it'll have to do for now atleast. I rarely drive the car anymore, only been maybe 3 times this year.. And due to this the battery was completely dead. The battery being in the boot makes it easier to jump start!

And thats about it, I played around with the shift light a bit more however it doesn't want to enter a menu to change the step size of each light.. Might play around with it tomorrow.

Tomorrow I have a track day at Wakefield, havn't been since November/December last year. My last PB was a 1.10.4 (Natsoft), 1.10.2 (RaceChrono) which I do plan to beat, I'm really wanting to enter the 1.09s. Hoping this new suspension will be the answer to this, weather forecast for tomorrow is rain from midday onwards which isn't the best of news. I'll need to spend a few sessions trying to dial in the coilovers, having 2 adjustments now on them will be interesting... oh well, I'll report back with the outcomes later in the week.

Quick service + wheel alignment today and she's ready.

Okay about that track day I prepped for, forgot to write about it so here we go (a few months later).

Of course, you book a track day a month in advance, its sunny leading up to the trackday and then over night it pours down, and continues to all day.. At the start of the day I realised I wouldn't be beating my PB but as we are there might as well have fun. Rained most of the day, few spin outs here and there from everyone. I was 4th overall for the day with a 1.11.00 but what can you do. I spent the day mucking around with the suspension settings, was finding it hard to find a sweet spot. Below I'll post a video of my fastest lap for the day and also a bonus vid chasing down a Evo & WRX with them eventually giving up and letting me through (watch until the end). Also the general assortment of photos from the day and the data I recorded each session testing the adjustments on the coilovers.

        Update from 08/09/2019

A few months ago a friend had a Recaro SPG at his house which I had a test sit in, which resulted with me falling in love with the seat, it's some comfy and snug to my body, with the harness holes in the correct place for me.

I've always been a bit 50/50 with the Bride, harness holes way below my shoulders, the should part of the chair didn't cover the width of my shoulders, and I was quite squished in it especially with all the fatty food I tend to eat nowadays. So I waited for a Recaro SPG to come up for sale as it seemed to fit me quite well, and here we are. It's a bit rough here and there, but all the padding is still good and it was only $400, easy peasy!

In a previous post in regards to the new coilovers, the front tyres are hitting the external reservoirs on full lock. Honed Development previously made some steering rack spacers which simply clip onto the steering rack and prevent to from turning all the way, and this was the solution. Yez Racing whom supplied my coilovers had some for me so I went back to get them, sneaky pic with their track ED!

Honda Nationals was coming up at Winton in Victoria again, so it was time to prep the car. I took the car for an alignment, fresh engine & gearbox oil, upgraded to proper high temp performance brake fluid as I've always used the normal stuff, and put the steering rack stoppers on.

I also purchased some braided brake lines as it's something I should have upgraded to many years ago, even though my old OEM ones are still going fine, but they have been rubbing through the outer lining to with the braided steel starting to show.. However I was unable to in time for Honda Nationals because the external reservoirs on the front were in the way. I'd have to drop the coilovers and with the alignment already done, I decided to leave them until next time. Also not to mention the hard lines have probably never been undone before, because we tried the rears and they just started to strip (using the correct spanners dw)..

Honda Nationals, where do I start...

First flick here with the car loaded on the trailer at home, left about 9am to make the 6hr journey down to the track. This year my brother decided to join my father and I for the weekend. One mission, enter the 1.38s (previous year PB'd with 1.40.0)

The day started off with a dead battery which was nice, due to a fault brake switch which luckily I brought a spare as I knew this one was starting to stuff up. As my previous Wakefield day testing the new coilovers was rainy I had no idea if it was correct, and decided to go out with them set as is, and it was horrible. Car kicking out weirdly, felt very lose and just not nice to drive, resulting with a crappy 1.46. Luckily Yez Racing were there competing as well, quick chat with them had me to set the top and bottom to the same position (so all settings I mention below is the top and bottom adjustments), and to set them to the middle range of the 32 avaliable clicks. Tyres set to 24psi cold throughout the day.

2nd session I went out with them on Front/Rear: 20/32, I dropped straight down to 1.41 which was a good sign changing the settings helped, but I'm here to enter the 1.38s regardless.

3rd session I changed the settings with the Front: 25/32 Rear: 15/32. The raise in the front and lower in the rear was because the rear kept trying to slide out, with the front feeling quite soft throughout the entire length of the corners. I resulted with a 1.39.6

4th & 5th sessions I changed between Front: 27/32 Rear: 13/32 AND Front: 27/32 Rear: 15/32. These 2 sessions I tried different lines, braking later, accelerating earlier however I kept getting 1.39.6s, 1.39.5s which was starting to annoy me, feeling I was doing everything possible.

6th session, jumped on YouTube and watched some vids of others to see how they take their lines, spoke to them in person for hints too. Kept the same Front: 27/32 Rear: 15/32 , final session of the day, told dad 'Get the trailer ready, I'm gonna send it'. Went out, straight into it and achieved my 1.38.91!! I was so happy once coming back into pits and seeing the result, felt so good to get the time I came for. I did end that session a little early as I managed to snap my exhaust at the rear (I'll address in the next post).

What an amazing day, H Nationals is the best event of the year, planned out so well with a great variety of cars, and always good to catch up with my interstate friends. Just like to thank the organisers who helped to hold this awesome day. Would like to thank my father and brother who helped as my pit crew for the day, I can do these events by myself and never force them to come, they just come for the enjoyment of the sport and support, including the good pub feeds on me. Below I'll post times for the day, my YouTube video and a spam of awesome photos from the photographers, thankyou to them for the photos of the awesome memories!!

New Honed Development gearknob, since I got the car I've used the OEM knob along side trying others here and there, always findign they are too small. Turns out they developed this one with similar reasons as they felt there was no good sized ones on the market. Feels great, I'll have this knob forever in the car forever!

Monster pub feed along with some beer, best after a good track day

So yeah, about that cracked exhaust.. I made this exhaust for the B swap 3yrs ago using bits of new piping along with old sections a friend had, MIG gasless welding.. I learnt welding in highschool for a major project, however welding without gas is rather crappy at times.. Hey it lasted this long lol.. When I have some spare money next year I plan to do a completely new system with GAS, try to position it closer to the body of the car, and flange the rear section as I'd like to make a muffler delete piece purely for the fun of it

My daily Mazda SP20 got hit by someone else just before H Nationals, and on the way down to H Nationals they rang me to say it'll be a complete write off.. So I had to daily the civic until I bought a new car which took 2 weeks. I removed the roll cage and put rear seats in to try be a bit more police friendly. I've wanted to take the cage out as where they drilled the holes for the bolts they didn't spray, including the plates on the outside of the chassis which started to surface rust.. No idea why they didn't paint it but oh well, I have gone ahead and painted them in black.

Also got a fuel cap holder which sticks on inside the cap, very noice if you ask me

I wanted to attend more track days this year, however it was my final year of my university degree so I decided to pay more attention to that to ensure I passed everything with flying colours, which I have! Next year I plan to do a lot more track days, with a few slight upgrades however I want to achieve my 1.09 at Wakefield with the car setup as is

Annnnnnd I made it onto the SpeedHunters blog for the event! Woo! Heres a link to the blog, and my photo

Thanks! The H Nationals is an awesome event, we enjoy the drive down and the atmosphere at Winton with the drivers and you organisers making it such a well run/smooth day. Since the first H Nationals I attended 3 years ago it has been my favourite trackday/event of the year.

P.S. Sorry for the late reply, time to get back into my build thread.

Well well well, look whose posting after nearly a year-ish.. What's my excuse? During H Nationals 2019 was my final Uni semester so I "focus'd" on finishing that off, went to Darwin over X-mas then spent Jan/Feb job hunting for a position in my field which I had secured by the 1st week of March, just in time for COVID19... My initial plan was to attend the track a fair bit this year since I have the new coilovers however only really used them at H Nationals, just wanted to get used to them and get some solid seat time in.

However COVID19 kinda threw that plan out the window as I'm sure it did for many people. Luckily I have been working from home after 4 days at the office of my new job, so the funds for many track days are waiting to be used.

The civic has pretty much sat in the garage as a storage unit/work bench, last October I bought another RT4WD Wagon from QLD which I was carrying out rust repairs on, so the civic made the perfect work bench and storage unit for many parts. However now NSW are allowed to return to the track I managed to book a day after most of July being booked out. Next Saturday (1st August) I have my Wakefield return day, I had the car wheel aligned last week and tomorrow need to install a new 6 point harness + sort some other things out. I'll have a run down post tmrw night, for now here's how the civic has looked for many months up until recently.

Annnd, heres some photos of my 2nd/"beater" RT4WD wagon I now have to cruise around in and allow the civic to more so spend it's time at the track, still street registered though.

On the 17th July I swapped the semi's onto the civic and got a wheel aligned sorted, and carried a oil change along with a bolt check for the Wakefield day on the 1st August. I get my alignments done at the same mechanic my parents use since they moved here when I was born. They always do a good job, and as they also look after some 2nd division (2nd tier from the top series) V8 Supercars and other muscle cars they arn't too dull in the motorsport side of alignments either. The posters on the wall have been there since I was a kid!

Last weekend I also decided it was time to part ways with my old "JDM as fk" Takata 4pt harness. I decided I might as well got a 5pt or 6pt whilst I'm buying a new harness, so I dropped by Revolution RaceGear and picked up a RPM 6pt harness. I installed it, having to drill 2 holes under the drivers seat within CAMs spec, and wrapped the 2 shoulder straps around the harness bar on the cage. However I forgot to take any photos of installation, was a bit strapped for time.

Last Saturday was the Circuit Club August 1st Wakefield day. I havn't been to Wakefield since last year in May where it rained all day, and with only 1 day at Winton in September on the new coilovers I wasn't too sure how my return to Wakefield will go. First few sessions were very sloppy as I tried to remember how to.. well how to drive a car. Spun out 3 or 4 times which didn't help the alignment of the car, curious to why the rear just wanted to play tokyo drift. About midday I decided to raise the front 5mm as I never raised the front when the rear was raised due to the external resorviors on the BC ER coilovers, which was causing a fair bit of rake. Raising the front 5mm seemed to level out the car a bit better, along with this we softened the rear from 15 clicks to 10.

Fair bit of track during the day, Euro cars taking up space flooring it down the straights, braking extremely early and going very slow through the turns made it interesting throughout the day, really just your standard track day..

After going back out with the new settings the car already felt much more stable, so I had 3 sessions left to try bring home this 1.09 PB goal. 2nd last session I came back to the 1.10.5, with the 2nd half of the final session showing a 1.10.27(PB), 1.10.43 & 1.10.35. Unfortunately no 1.09 PB goal here but I'm happy with how the car performed since it's long break at Wakefield. I have booked in for another day in 3 weeks, shall see what that day results with!

Few flicks below I took on the day, time sheets & YouTube PB lap.

Yeah it's been a while but that's also because nothing really happened to the car for 9 months.. I do miss active forums, I guess it's up to us and others to keep them going!

So after taking the civic off the trailer after my last Wakefield day the brakes were squealing and making all sorts of weird noises.. Upon checking the brakes the following day, I found the cause.. I was happily jumping on the brakes at the 50m marker on the back straight with the pads like this, suprised they still held up to this!

So with that I went ahead and ordered some more Intima SR pads from Intima as I'm returning to Wakefield on the 26th August in a few weeks time so best get these sorted asap, thanks Phil! We chatted about maybe moving me up to the Intima Type D-V2 for my next set of pads, maybe I'll do it also when I put my SiR knuckles into the car.

As well as the new pads I decided it was time to remove my sound system. I've always liked having it in however as I no longer drive the car on the road (it's still street registered) I didn't see the point in keeping it in, also as it can be used in one of my other cars that I do drive on the street. I will also be removing my heater core as since doing the B swap 4 years ago, I never actually got around (I'm quite lazy) to installing the metal roads to control the heater from the hand dials, and as our fellow ClubITR forum member Rhys has confirmed the anti-fog applications actually work, I'll be opting for that!

Still a bit iffy about removing even the head unit as I always liked having something in the center console but we shall see how I feel with some block off plates in there.

Thought I'd check how much she all weighs, not bad at all!

This morning I took the civic for a wheel alignment before towards return to Wakefield. Reason for another alignment is as probably mentioned in the last post, I spun off a few times last day trying to figure why the rear was so loosey goosey.. Also with raising the front to help that issue also contributed with the alignment being out. Upon seeing the initial alignment specs today I thought to myself damn I did 1.10.2 on that, if I don't get 1.09's tomorrow someone needs to slap me. I'll include a before and after photo of the specs below, I'm trying a "new" setup based off Honed Development recommended specs, main difference is having zero toe in the front, and +1mm individual toe out in the rear (was meant to tell mechanic 1.5 but accidentally said 1, whoops).

Car is loaded on trailer, my father usually tows it down for me as mentioned before but as he started his new job this week he can't have any days off, so first time I'll be towing the car should be good fun.

Right brake light randomly went out, whoops
