    Photography People - Advice Needed

Lads I need some advice regarding a Point and Shoot camera for my pending holiday. Basically i want something that takes quite nice photos but is small and durable.

I was looking at the new olympus waterpoof camera range, but a guy at work took some pics on his for me and they came out quite average!

    Have you got any recommendations?

    My criteria is:

Around the 500 dollar mark plus a memory card
    small
    metal case if possible

If you're going overseas then I think you can claim the GST component when you leave.

yep...you can claim all your gst back, just have the reciept and the product...and they will put the money on your credit card, cheque or bank account

can't go wrong with Canon point and shoot digital cameras...
the IXUS range is excellent, a girl friend went to Europe and took pics with her Canon IXUS 750 and they turned out great!
and i think you can take video with that too...

but the newer model to that is the IXUS 800. And SD cards are cheap as chips.

Both the 750 and 800 will be around the $500 mark after you claim back your GST.

I also don't mind the higher range Sony P&S digicams.

I went and had a look around today and think i have decided on the Sony T10 in black. Although i hate the fact that sony makes you buy memory sticks etc it seems to be quite a nice camera.

Thats the waterproof model yes? I had a guy at work test his dads one and the photos that came out of it were not that impressive. They were really saturated and the colours were way off. I was actually considering this camera until I saw those photos

if the T10 is anything like the T7, you're going to hate indoor and night time shots...
it really sucks! you might as well be using a camera phone

go to dpreview.com and look at the sample images (if they're available) and read what the camera owners have to say about it.

Ive had a look around and both dpreview and steves-digicams.com gave it a good review. It seems they have overcome previous downfalls of the T7 but as with any other point and shoot it doesn't provide magnificent pictures in low light.

                          oh okay.

well +1 for IXUS series cameras anyway (CANON ). I've never had a positive experience with sony compact cameras.

                            Canon IXUS 850IS FTW!!!
                            or
Fujifilm FinePix F30 for low light.
The most expensive is not always the best, but the best is always expensive.
