Suggestions for blog sites

Hi guys,

Looking at starting a blog. Was wondering which sites people suggest?

I've been recommended

www.blogger.com
www.wordpress.com

A site that you can save to your HDD (in case the site folds) and one that has lots of customizability would be ideal.

Suggestions would be great! thanks

wordpress > blogger

blogger is owned by google
wordpress is opensource software so there is a huge community behind it to making it better.

sign-up for an online blog account with each one and test them out and see what features they have for your needs.

IMO - Wordpress better, just to name a few:
UI is nice clean
a lot more themes to style your site and look professional;
more features;
save a copy of you site. (can probably do this with blogger but i have no experience with it to say)

if you decide you setup up wordpress with your own hosting - there is even more customizabilty to it with plugins, widgets etc..
