    DC5R Advice wanted!

    The time has come...

I've found a schmick DC5-R with 78k km for sale in a stealership. They're asking $29K with 12 months rego. Now assuming the car drives the way a good, stock DC5-R should. Is that a decent price, or should i be looking elsewhere??

I'm not fussed about warranties and so forth, because I know dealer warranties on used cars mean diddly squat.

The issue i've got with redbook, is i've never yet found anyone willing to part with their car for the prices suggested in Redbook

from what i've seen the redbook prices are a little low.
that seems like reasonable price, maybe see if you can get em to drop it little, ~28k

haha yeah I've been told redbook is a bit low.
glasses guide is meant to be more realistic but you need to pay for it.

              Redbook sucks...

You should use the values they use on Drive.com.au
              It's actually more realistic!

I've noticed that private sellers are asking as much as dealers for the cars... maybe they're expecting to get 5k knocked off the asking price. i guess there is only one way to find out

LOL please dont be a massive low balla. usualyl 2k is the reasonable amount to take off, of course condition of car is important as is how much rego is left.

funkyR is selling his CW DC5R with 61500km on it for $31k. Seems like he's got a list of very good quality mods. Looks like he knows what hes doing and the car's been taken care of.

Personally I wouldn't buy from a dealership. Only because you don't really know whats happened to the car before they decided to gloss it up, or who the previous owner is. if you go private, you cut out the middleman (save u $$) and see the car in its original condition.

I'll offer to pay what the car is actually worth, as opposed to what an owner THINKS it's worth

In all seriousness, if a dealer sells a stocker with marginally more kms, for less money AFTER adding their margin to the car AND giving a years rego, you know that the market value is around 5k less than the dealer price. The other thing to bear in mind is that you can pick up a type-s with 2x,000km for mid 30's from a dealer, you pretty much just have to accept that a type-r with three times the mileage, several more years under the belt and god knows what in the way of modifications is going to be worth a good deal less money, particularly from a private seller.

And we all know exactly how much mods add to the value of a used car, usually nothing, occaisionally they've a negative impact. So in light of that, i'm going to market with the bargainers business ethic and offering 6k less than the asking prices.
