the GPS is free on the iphone because it has it's owngps receiver. Using the Maps on the iphone is not as it downloads google maps as u need it. It is a small download and most cap plans now have data allowance which is plenty for most users.

thats right, you need external bluetooth GPS receiver, the built in GPS on the nokia doesnt work with racechrono

Just tried messing with the iPhone one, can vouch for it to be prtty solid (wasnt speeding) The performance test is quite interesting.. tells 60 ft, quarter mile time etc...

the graph showing power also seems pretty accurate, full acceleration peaked at about 105kw (didnt go passed 2nd gear).

Interested to see this work properly in a track situation.

what do you mean using GPS is free on the iphone and using Maps is not?
how else would you use the GPS on the iPhone if not in Maps application?

I give you this, using a DVD burner u own on ur computer is free. But the discs cost money!

In otherwords, the GPS is used to more than just "navigation". It is also used for many other Apps (like Track Day).
What apple have done is give you the gps facilities but they have not given you the maps. It's like what Nokia did with the n95, give you the gps but the maps you had to pay for (although that was a once off payment).

So it's pay as you go for the maps strictly in terms of data use.

Or you can just download a hacked version of the GPS mapping software for your N95
