in the sub-40k category the dc2r is pretty hard to beat. i think after owning the best FF sports car in the world, you have pretty high expectations.
the evo/sti option is there for a very quick turbo car. ive driven FunkyR's lightly tuned evo9 and they are DAMN quick in a streight line and on winding roads (and their circuit prowess is well documented).
an s15 is a good choice, ive driven one several times, and the midrange turbo punch is really nice, they look great, they are very tuneable, and they have the FR thing.
you could go for a FR NA machine like the jdm-spec altezza with the 3s-ge, which would be fun and unique, or what ive often thought about; the autech S15, the N/A one i just think it would be cool to have a really nice S15, but instead of the turbo growl like all the others, you have this NA scream but i dont think these are quite as quick as the dc2r..
a late-model mr2 turbo would be a different choice, i think they are more unique than the nissan options, they have the toyota reliability, and the challenge of MR handling, and can look really cool when tuned a bit..
theres also the R34 25GTt option, but as much as i like skylines i think the S15 turbo does everything it can do but better..
good luck deciding and remember the planning/deciding is part of the fun!

it's been a while since the OP replied so i'm not sure if he's sold the dc2r yet or not. similar performance for sub 20k isn't overly easy. i too think s15's might be the way to go. as for twitchy feeling some have said, i found that the rear end on stock rims/rubber is a bit loose, but when/if you get wider rubber/bigger rims that helps a lot. the s15 isn't as raw and racy as we all know but they're not exactly slow either. they *should* be able to be as quick around a track as a dc2r.

sw20 mr2 turbos should be good too. models 93+ have suspension revisions to help reduce the snap oversteer problems earlier models had. not sure how easy to find turbo 93+ models are though...

i would suggest trying to find a turbo mx5 (sp or se) but i doubt you can find one for under 20k. maybe look at a NA one for cheaper and turbocharge it yourself?

or for something totally different... an e30 318i? the 100kw version?

x2. I've already asked many times. No luck. Best chance is to move there and private import. Even then it won't be street legal.

i'm going to try and steer it back on topic 1 more time..

looking a bitleft of field, u may want to look at some 1JZ-powered toyotas in that ~25k price range, either a manual soarer or jzx 90/100 chaser/mark II/cresta. 1jz power + FR + practicality. they can be very quick, though u gotta remember its not a sports car per se, so i wouldnt expect the pin-sharp handling of an ITR...
also most of these choices will be older / more kms than your current dc2r for the same $...
