Besides the bait operation, we can also implement a system to report stolen goods as well as description.
Maybe start a new thread and put all the descriptions of parts in. This should limit the demand for such stolen goods.
Also include exactly time of theft, location and state etc..
We can also act as a group and liase with A Current Afairs on a story etc. to raise awareness from the police (as you know police are passive and won't do anything until they cope media pressure).
Anything that you guys can think of?
This is a good suggestion, i put this up on OH

i would say anyone who buys parts on any forum for a DC2R should ask for proof of where they are from, and if proof cannot be provided, out them on this forum... there is no reason WHATSOEVER why you couldnt provide paperwork proving the legitimacy of the parts you sell... even a pic of it on "your car" would suffice...
the police dont give a shit because as far as they are concerned we are an issue...
I'm not in PR but i do and have worked in insurance for a long time... Insurers don't gain anything out of helping us here. Like the police they do see our market as problems (bar the mainstream high risk underwriters such as JCI/Custom Car). Plus, the more fear this sort of thing propogates, the more income they make unfortunately.
The best thing everyone can do here is really consider what your car is worth to you. This particular car has thousand of dollars of modifications on it. I know its a bit over the top, but if you are going to spend that much, be prepared to lsoe a fair chunk of it because if you are driving it every day then you cannot ensure the car's safety, anywhere, from anyone... Grab yourself a shitter to drive everyday, and lock your car up during the day...
If it is a workshop doing it, the immobiliser doesnt means shit because all you need is an ECU + programmed key to get your car to start... take out your main dizzy lead... this will ensure it cant be started, mount sirens out of sight so they cannot be cut, hide your alarm modules... there is a lot that can be done, BUT it is never ever completely preventable... dont leave keys lieing around your house...
Most importantly in my opinion, this is very much driven by a market that is happy to buy cheap good, considering most of the cars enthusiasts are getting into are relatively inexpensive to buy, i.e. eg, DC2 etc... and parts are stupidly dear.... engine conversions are rife at the moment, relatively inexpensive and easy to do... people want our shit fellas, take care of your property
far out man... another one... im seriously considering selling my car... sigh... and even tat they can always come and inspect my car and steal it off my hands... but scanning their driver license and taking picture of them would be good... sigh...
is there anything we can do about this??
in all honesty... i would very much like to do the bait... im definitely up for it...
woahh...2 Type Rs and a S15 that we have heard have been stolen! there must be more that we don't know about!
Now i think twice about driving up to Sydney! Hope you guys get your car back in one piece!
Hope this kind of stuff don't happen in Melbourne!!!
