When will the DC2R stop being a daily? - Thefts

Ive been thinking about this a lot lately with all the thefts that have been around, and over the last few years.

I hate to overdramatise, but I think it really is going to get to a stage soon where our cars not going to be able to be driven as daily's any more.

The popularity of conversions and in Honda's as "performance vehicles", and the dropping price of parts and availability is starting to drive theft. Every stupid little punk wants to rip bits of a R, motors, brakes, interiors gearboxes etc.

If anyone here frequents Honda-Tech, you would know that the Acura Integra has/had the highest incidence of theft in the US! This is not good for us as enthusiasts not only because we have to be careful and vigilant about how we use our cars, but insurance is going to go through the roof!

My advice to everyone is, make sure you are insured! If you can't afford to insure the car, you can't afford the car, and buy a cheap daily for transport! Lock your cars up during the day and at night or if it isn't with you, the more of these cars get stolen the more we will be punished as owners with high insurance premiums.

It aint a Ferrari, i know that, and i appreciate all different cars, but ive had mine since new, and until today everytime i drive it it still puts a smile on my face, so i really like my car, i dont want some stupid f*(k getting there hands on it, and i dont want too many of us on here becoming statistics.

    What are everyone's thoughts?

Absolutely spot on! This is what I did... not for reasons of theft, but to reduce the amount of time the ITR has to sit outside work in the hot sun all day.

Thieves suck. Layered security measures are the best bet, if someone wants your car badly enough they will get it though. Hopefully the harder you make it for them, the less likely that is to happen...

        Alarms are quite useless,
Its amazing how quickly these can be disarmed without driving much attention.
Deterant? Maybe... but it sure as hell isnt working as effectively as intended by its makers.

I agree with Zillis comment regarding full comprehensive insurance.
If you cant afford to pay it, dont drive/buy the car... buy urself a daily car.

I dont have insurance on my car... then again I NEVER drive my car haha stays in my garage! I have a corolla for a daily lol. Even if I had insurance I'd still be paranoid about parking it everywhere so the only places i take it out to is where I can see it parked, right in front of the shop!

imo for what our cars are and what they're worth we're paying stupid amounts to insure them.

Your insurance would be void if you do this unless you have a '96 jdm spec dc2r

I'm thinking about re-doing my alarm and getting several killswitches and one of those UFO clublocks that cover the whole steering wheel and its unbreakable lol

Well this is exactly what im thinking about, and i see it from both sides, working for an Insurer.

There will be a point where it all gets too crazy, and insurance goes up, they will be stoleen left right and centre, and people will just stop driving them as "daily" cars, just how itt is in the states.

just hook up a battery to the gear stick, they may break in for the seats etc, but they always get tempted to take the Titanium knob.....hehe

Yeah I've been looking for insurance and the quotes I've been getting range from $3300 to $6300!

Which Insurer do you work for?

Why would your insurance be null and void if you had a quick release boss kit?

I work for Suncorp, within NSW we have GIO AAMI Shannons and Just Car. At the moment i'm with AAMI (reluctantly) and its about $1200 for a sum insured of 22k i think.... however im 28

i really want to move from them though... need to look around. GIO has Custom Car Insurance that is kinda like just Car... give them a go

because it may not be a legal modification

Well my car is insured with Shannon's and is insured as a weekend car. I'm paying more for the dc2r than my s2k.

i think it also depends on who you speak to on the day.

how much you pay for yours perry? i might ask shannons since my car is basically a weekend car too haha

do you have track insurance as well?
