    living in Melb/Syd

    hey guys,

thinking of taking up a position in syd or melb, more opportunities in my organisation with my awesome brown-nosing skills and limited IT skills.. (jk)

what would i expect to pay in rent for a 2x1 with secured car park? something decent, not super brand new. would it be better to rent or buy? here in perth its probably better to buy right now, rent is soooo expensive!! renting is probably preferable as i just got a property here in perth.

also, with the cost of living, would it be better in syd or melbourne? they are willing to move the position to either but not perth

thanks in advance for ur advice!!

Go to melb, Syd is terribly congested.

Agree with going melb. The only thing Syd has against Melb, is the weather. Melb's almost constantly wet like UK.

I was in a simillar situation.. Was based in Melb but was offered to work up in Sydney.

I wasn't planning to buy so I was looking at renting. Sydney rental property (the ones that I liked) was more expensive compared to Melbourne and we're talking abt 15km away from CBD. It was 50% more than what I currently pay in Melbourne.

The weather up in Sydney is higher in humidity and everything moves alot faster as well.

Cost of living.. well that depends on teh package that you will be getting from your company but in Sydney is higher as well..

So there you go... and guess what.. I'm still stuck in Melbourne!

i thought melb weather is Constantly RANDOM!..

one thing i have always heard or said about melbourne is when you come here for travels.. pack for all 4 seasons, one day it maybe wet cold and miserable in the middle of summer then the next its 40 degrees and dry, then comes the gale force winds that tip over trees and powerlines..

                  and seriously it happens...

                      Living Inside the CBD?...

i have like a few friends that do live inside the city..

its not cheap to be smack bang center.. and usually parking is also an issue.. (assuming the place u rent has a garage)

would u not consider a suburb outside the CBD? (thats close to public transport and just tram, bus, train in)..

yeh true a place with a garage in the CBD that has a garage is pretty spectacular man, you'll be paying through the roof. out here in heidelberg, my uncle has just built a big multi story apartment center with all under ground parking, 2 spots each. the 5 penthouse apartments which actually one of the highest places in melbourne will go for easy 450, 500 a week. their three bedroom tho. however even the second level apartments which still can see the city and on the other side king lake will still be 300 to 400 a week also and their mostly 2 bedrooms. so yeh thats 20 mins from the city s the CBD with Parking will be dam expensive.

Just to give you an idea, I'll have an apartment in Melb CBD ready by 2010.
It's on the corner of Latrobe and Russell St.
Fully furnished, 2 bed 2 bath 1 car garage and it will be renting for $550-$650/week.
