my gf's sister just bought a dell laptop...the inspiron...it's HUGE!!!
2.97kg but it's like twice the size of my ibook!!

    the specs are decent tho...

a friend of mine bought a dell desktop...that thing is a beast!
He bought the XPS system, Quad core. it runs Crysis really nicely!!
His other friends gave him shit about spending all that money when they could have gotten something even better for less than $2600. But that 24" Dell High Def screen is amazing!!!

hmmm... the general consenus seems to be that their a relatively reputable brand...

like most manufactures, they allow you to customise your own laptop from each series they bring out.... wat i have in mind is getting rid of my home PC, cuz its an antique (1.19 GHz @ 512 MB RAM) and freeing up some space in my room by getting rid of the monitor, speakers, mini-tower etc, as well as the computer desk.... and instead of customising a new home pc, ill just buy a laptop.... the laptop i have in mind is the Dell XPS M1330, and ill customise to the following specs:

      - Intel Core Duo Processor T9500 (2.6 GHz, 6 MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB)
      - 4 GB (2 x 2048MB) 667 MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
      - 320 GB SATA Hard Drive
      - NVIDIA Geforce 8400M GS with 128 MB GDDR3
      - 13.3" WXGA (1280 x 800)
      - inbuilt 2.0MP webcam

this will cost me around $2300... the only drawback of this particular laptop is that the graphics card cant be changed... id say the only weaklink would be the graphics card, everything else is pretty decent for a laptop... im not that much of a serious gamer, like, im not realli into FPS's, mainly just RPG's and RTS's..... i would also be using the laptop for uni as well, as i have another 4 semesters left......

my question is, would it be worthwhile getting rid of my PC and only using a laptop???

ive got a dell - basic inspiron with 2gb ram , dual pro. and hd etc.

Goes good and for the money its probably the best deal out there , but i have a recent issue with start up - very SLOW to load the entire OS. I have researched and it seems this is a slightly common problem with failing ram. Hopefully dells customer service is OK when i begin to contact them in this regards

Apart from that , Dell are fine as a no frills work computer.

Dad has an M1330, for the money hard to beat, and its got an ok warranty too. Just make sure you remove all that proprietary Dell crap that's pre-installed otherwise your computer will run as slow as shit.

Dell xps1330 does not have the excess blot your talking about. Just got one with the extended batter (5-6 hr battery life). very good value for its price plus it looks great.

A dell has never missed a beat for me and I always buy their servers, laptops as they have very good warranty services.

yep even the macbook pro, its running intel chipset so even if ur just a windows person, u can dual boot to vista or xp. and its got the 8600M GT graphics card, which is probably one of the best in mobility at the moment.. not to mention the laptop looks nice

but if u wanna stick with dell, i've had one for more then 6years.. no problems and still running strong. could do with a new battery though.. lol

I've used Dell laptops a fair bit and they are quite good in my opinion.

Warranty/hardware support (from what I have experienced/seen) is also pretty good, they are usually fairly quick to replace faulty components. As for performance, there won't be much difference between the brands as it would depend on what config you're after.

I'm currently using an HP laptop and love it, no issues at all so far (I've only had it for 3~Months though). I haven't had any hardware faults with my laptop so I can't compare their support/warranty.

I have had a couple of Dells over the years! There a solid machine although not the nicest to look at! But in terms of delivery, function and reliability i have had no problems.. right now i'm waiting for my new Penryth 17" fully spec'd Macbook Pro to arrive.. will be replacing my Rev A 15" MBP.. i really do love the dual boot Mac's!!
