    MINI CooperS rear ended me!!

    I'm so furious right now!!
Just driving into work this morning and in traffic a dark grey MINI CooperS rear ended me. The damage was minimal but the fact that she didn't even bother to get out of the car to acknowledge she hit me!!!

She drove around me but i did manage to get her number plate.

So what do I do now if i want to follow this up?
Go to a police station with all the info I have and report it?
Am I allowed to get her details from the transport department?

Getting her registration is the first step, so good stuff there.
Go to the police for a report, and then get insurance to chase her up!

she will probably get done for 'driving away without leaving particulars after an accident'...it's a fine and 3 demerit points...

yeah i'll chase this up not because of damages, but it's the principle of the thing.

no, the witness will need to be independant to be recognised by insurance. But just get your P4 filled out at the cop shop, and get your event number then go to your insurer, they will take care of the rest. it is a cut and dry situation because you got rear ended.

hmm i just went to the cop shop and they said for me to just lodge it with my insurance company..cuz they usually don't deal with "minor" incidents like these. ???
anyway, i'm going to lodge it with my insurance and get them to chase it up.

just have a police report handy. it'll be easier that way if the other driver decides to deny the accident. Do them in for leaving the scene of an accident without exchanging details. A witness would help your cause too.

Probably want to chase it up quick too, in case they get their car repaired and then deny your claims.

You should've chased and stopped her on the spot because it is much harder to try and make a claim now. If she doesn't own up to it then the insurance company won't really make that much of an effort to chase it up for you.

The insruance company will also refuse to create a claim for you unless you have her full residential address. Go back to the police station and tell them that you need to get her residential address to make an insurance claim. Don't bother ringing the police to get it cause they won't give it to you over the phone.

                        Hope it helps.

Its wrong, insurance try to get things done by not paying any $$ out of their pocket....so in this case...they will do their job.
You do not need other party's full residential address to make a claim. you don't even need to tell the other party in the accident about Ur address if you dun feel comfortable. Anyone is protect by privacy law so even the police won't disclose other party's personal details unless you obtain a written agreement from the person. Police may give you the details but that is not they suppose to do coz they break the privacy law...

tofu....tell the police dun be lazy......its their job if you report a hit and run so they need to go and find that person.
you should have the police report handy incase of anything....
try to get this done in cast they fix the car fast and get you in trouble...

I have had a similar experience to Tofu and also a friend about 2 weeks ago. Both cases resulted in the insruance company not being very 'willing' to chase it up. Not sure about the privacy thing but both cases I have been able to get the other parties full details from the police.
