best 40in LCD HD TV to get?

LCD - Sony Bravia W, XBR series

Plasma - Pioneer LX508 or 608 without a doubt, but so much more expensive. You could get two 52inch XBR LCD TVs for the cost of one LX608

if plasma get panasonic/pioneer

pioneer offer free installation if you get it its up to you if you want it on a table top or wallmount ( they will charge you if you want to run the cables thru the wall i think its like $250+ depending on the wall material )

Hitachi is ok they are no longer in the consumer electronics so their tv's are going heaps cheap but they are offering only 2 extended years warranty on the tv, never had a problem with hitachi ( the only problem we have had with them is they sometimes forget to change the power cord to AU leaving the Jap cord in the box )

hmmmm my first plasma....LG died in 2 weeks....warrenty gave me a brand new one.....then my samsung...open out of the box....faulty lol took it back gave me a new one.... it's all good....thats what warrenty is for

It really is not true, they are not all the same. The only thing which is the same about them is that they are an LCD or Plasma tv.

To the people saying product facts about Sony's TVs. Look for yourself in a store. If you're having a hard time believing it, nothing spells it out better than looking at one irl.

When it comes down to it, the real advice is this. Don't listen to anyone elses stories, go down to the shops and look at them for yourself because at the end of the day, everyone has their own opinions and it will be YOUR tv not somebody else's.

What i tell you is from experience as i sell computers and tv's for the Good Guys. I also attend promotional functions for the major brands.

Things which make Sony D series and X series good is the motionflow (100hz) and the 24p. The W series imo is a waste of money because it does not support motionflow OR 24p. instead, i would recommend going the X if you want the better picture.

In plasma best bang for buck is the Panasonic 1080i and 1080p plasmas. Best picture out of the brands and best pricing (excluding pioneer).

Speakign of warranty, Sony only comes with 1 year warranty if I'm not mistaken. Extra cost for longer

Samsung have longer (3 years ?) they also do a guarantee on 0 dead pixel..

you can do better than that on the sony W. I paid $2400 but ive heard you can get it cheaper. I'll PM you a copy of the receipt if you want to use it as a bargaining tool, most places beat it by 10% or whatever.
