1080i is still 1080 vertical lines. its the refresh rate thats different to p. atm no australian free2air broadcast is 1080p (or any other broadcast for that matter).
there may be no point in getting a 1080p panel now, but it does futureproof things somewhat.
you can check out http://hdtvprices.pbwiki.com/ for a rough guide to low pricing for some of the tvs on the market.
I bought a Sony 40" W series not too long ago. Didn't see enough difference between that and the X/XBR series to warrant paying more. I also noticed sound / lip sync problems with the 100hz motionflow rubbish on the latter models. was a good deal too with the freebie ps3. too bad that promo is over.

Not much to look for except to get 1080p and have lots of HDMI input (i have 3), should also come with HD tuner as standard.
Sony isn't the best panel, have a look at pioneer (not many stores stock them), but I always use them as a bench mark to compare the more "affordable" LCD's.
When it comes to LCD TVs, the Sony Bravia X series is the best shit out there. period.
Go and check the X series out for urself and compare.sigpicCurrent holder of the Win folder.

because i know they also share antenna connections which will make one seem worse quality than the other, also if there's a sales incentive on one, they will try and make that model look a better quality to make the sale.

I was looking at the samsung F8 and comparing it to the Sony X series.
I heard that they have the same board etc.. but when you do compare it side by side the Sony one seems to look smoother and sharper. I guess it's just a different processor but as noodleman said.. you only gonna get one...
Price difference, F8 is considerably cheaper.
