    Polo Gti > Civic Sport

    Hey guys,

As some of you may know I had put a deposit down on the new Civic Sport - but it has been 4mths wait for it now and still no news when it's going to arrive!

I feel like I'm getting played around by these guys, firstly I was told my car would arrive in mid-July and then mid-August and then last month they told me the car had finally got onto the ship. Now, I'm usually a patient guy but this is just ridiculous - I had the manager to call me up 2 days ago to tell me that they have NO RECORD of my car being on the ship!

On the brighter side, I went to the Volkswagen dealership today to test drive the Polo Gti and it's definately a grunty lil car! Handles like a go-kart and goes like there's no tomorrow.

The Volkswagen salesman told me the car could be mine within 2 days and I'd be more than happy to take up the offer - however, I just want some opinion from you guys... do you think it's worthwhile to swap to the Polo or stay with the Civic??

Reason why I ask is that I heard VW's build quality ain't upto standard from the likes of Honda etc. and the repairs are quite expensive... so what do you guys think?? What would you do if you were in my shoes
    sif it's a girls car

4mths wait, u must love the civic ALOT. Ring up and ask nicely why the hold up is. Then ring up a few more places and confirm its true.

Basically varify whether the dealer is lying to you or not, if they are, then you have every right to go in with a shotgun.

i would pick the polo ... but the civic could have potential if u bolt in a k20a. Alot of work. Polo is ready out of the box.

I'd go the Polo in the first place.
You can try asking for a service pricing schedule for both cars, this will be an indication of the servicing costs.
Also look @ insurance costs and fuel economy.

After factoring the financial side of things, it might make the picture a bit clearer for yourself.

If you do stick with the civic, I'd make sure it's worth staying for it.
Some free accessories perhaps and a free service somewhere along the line.

Thanks guys for the extremely quick reply! lol

Jingers: Yeah I've rang them like every week trying to get a confirmation date off them, but they still have no indication of when it's going to arrive. The manager told me the reason why there is a holdup is because the wharfies are on strike and there were cyclones on the coastline disrupting the ships from coming in. I think thats a load of BS

fueltank: Yeah insurance is a little bit worrying being a turbo, but it shouldn't be a problem. The fuel consumption seems quite decent too - it says 7.1L/100km on the sticker, but I reckon it would be a little more.

My main concern is if I'm going to regret it or not - the Civic comes equipped with leather, curtain airbags and a sunroof - very practical!

But the Polo comes from more of a sporty nature - equipped with EBD, ESP and some groovy Recaros... mMmm

Well it really comes down to what is practical to YOU.
If you want luxury then get the Civic.

When I got my car I put the number thing as sunroof
I never had a car with sunroof so I put it as a 'must have'.
          Then I went on pricing.

You could do the same I guess, list something the car must have and then look at pricing/running costs.

Add 1~1.5L/100km and it would be a more realistic consumption IMO.

Ring up another dealer or perferably go in person, say if u were to order a civic sport right now would i be looking at cyclones and troubles with wharfies too? They go through a single supplier and dealers are cutthroats and will have no problems in badmouthing another dealer

get the polo, and then get "that ecu" which like unleashs the full potential of the polo gti- something like 130kw atw <-- or less.

4 months is a damn long time.

HAHAHA that is true. Dealers will bad mouth each other or at the very least insinuate bad things about the other dealer

I think it really depends what you want out of the car. A Civic sport will never have the potential of a POLO GTI. "philz" is right about flashing the ECU of Polo, it will release the power till 150kw atw or even 200kw atw depends if you have supporting hardware. But the main issue with Polo GTI is the brakes. According to the owners on vwvortex.com, brakes should be the first thing to mod.

But if you need practicality, i guess you will still need to wait for your CIVIC sport.

Although, i know some will disagree, my personal recommendation is a Colt Ralliart. 4 Door, drinks lesser than a Polo GTI, faster than Polo GTI, corners much harder than both Civic / Polo and it gets the real Recaro bucket seats.
For all ralliart colt owners & lovers, i'm please to announce that the ralliart colt forum is finally online and working. Please come and support the site. http://www.rcolt.com

I don't think the Polo comes with Recaros, I sat in one and my oh my they sucked some major balls! LOL

and the Ralliart Colt Recaro's doesn't match up to the Integra ones either IMHO...or it could be because of my very slim build? Though they're quite comfy...

I haven't jumped in a Civic Sport before so I can't really comment but I gotta say that the Polo is a fun little car to drive and does have some potential...pity the no leather and sunroof as standard...would've thought European luxury was included in the $28,000 driveaway price tag

Jingers: Yeah I've rang around a couple of places and they told me that for me to be able to get my hands on a black manual sport I'd be waiting until December - but that's if I order it now. They have no idea about the shipment dates for the people that ordered in earlier dates.

philz: The sales guy told me about that ECU that can be done at around $1500 - and yes it would give the Polo an extra 40-or-so kw atw. Sounds bloody tempting but I guess I'd wait til warranty expires lol

lovesil: Yes the Ralliart Colt was also on my shopping list, but for $29,990 not including orc. etc. seems rather dear, especially for a Colt. However you gotta love the recaros that are straight outta the evo8-9 (??) but the dash looks rather cheapish?

Would you happen to have timeslips that shows that the Colt is quicker? I reckon it might though, since the Colt is slightly lighter...

thats totally bs if they can't give you an exact date....i called every day to find out where the hell my car is...until they gave me an eta date for the ship to land in the wharf

call up again...threaten them, tell them if you dont give me an eta date i'm gonna forget about this stupid contract i signed

honda have a system that tells them when the car finishes from the production line, and which ship it's scheduled for shipping and an eta date for the ship to land....so give them pressure

why not go for a used car? like a used integra typeS? or a dc2r..?? hehe

you find one you like, you hand over the cash.. its yours straight away!

i just dont understand the desire to have a new car.. they depreciate so much when you buy them..
