There is no way both these cars are write offs!!...i've been and seen much worse and it wasn't a write off.
To be considered a write off, the repairable damages need to come to a total of 75% of the value of the car, and consider the little amount of damage to both these cars versus the value of these cars, there is no way it costs that much to fix.

Plastic bumpers bounce back and hide bent raditor support etc. so it could be worse underneath the bumper

not necessarily, but these days its not out of the ordniary to pay tousands upon thousands of dollars just to replace airbags considering the number of bags in vehicles

hell no... then u are farked with a volvo as their air bags are really sensitive

from memory its 3k per airbag from bmw.. 8 air bags =24k ahaha

well, if you are in a crash that needed to deploy all 8 airbags then you'd just be happy you're alive, and of course the car will be a write off if it's sustained that much damage to all around the car.

in regards to the minis, perhaps the repair bill wouldnt be cheap? considering the bonnet/headlights/front guards are actually one piece/panel.
