LCD monitor broke, repair or replace

benq 17in monitor with 16ms refresh rate,

    it now doesnt refresh...

it doesnt stay on, it gets teh screen up, then goes black, like it runs out of power...

we got it in 2004, so out of warranty...

    repair or replace?

repair = less stress on environment + might be cheaper

    replace = new 19 0r 20in monitor at $300+ prices

    anyone have any helpful input?

this CRT is pissing me off!

i've got the same problem with one of my LCD monitors. probably cheaper to replace, and a lot less hassle.

lcd monitors are fairly cheap nowadays. better to replace than repair imo.

not to mention the space savings of an LCD as oppose to CRT

              Buy a new one.

At least you get brand new warranty.

My g/f was in the same situation as well - her benq 737S-D has the same symptoms and I think the cold-cathode itself inside is gone. Theres a tutorial floating around on the not on how to replace it and I was going to attempt to, but got lazy so I bought her a new one.

                        thanks!!!!

i will definitly try that if i can work out it is that part for sure...

it was flickering just slightly, and the screen displays fine (but flickery) for a few seconds then dies...

so must have something to do with that light...

just spoke to benQ - no replacemetn parts can be sold for this (so tehy force you to get a servce)

if it IS the backlight, it is $88 to fix it...

i am going to try to find a new backlight elsewhere, but at least i know that it coudl be only $88 from BenQ
