Nikon has it too in the D90 but I think it's only 720p and not 1080p. Dunno how many fps the Canon is in terms of video capture but the D90 is 24fps.

and it's not like Canon is going to put a 1Ds MkIII into a 5D body like what Nikon have done with the D700. If that happened, people will just be buying the lower model instead of buying a 10k+ body..

so yeah.. nikon is leading i guess lol

it wouldnt be over 25. None of the consumer camcorders which ARE FULL HD (that excludes sony and jvc) Record over 25fps or 1080/25p. Which is fine as blu-ray movies are apprently 24p

According to the specs, it's 30 fps - 38.6 Mbits/s. But looks like sound is mono only using the inbuilt mic, with stereo recording via an external mic.

thats pretty surprising. Not sure what i can say except it probably wont be good quality video IF IT IS actually 1080p.

it's only a value add. if anyone was serious about recording video i'm sure they'd look elsewhere

Yeh, the fact that it is going in a DSLR (and not even an entry level DSLR) is really surprising.. Why the fuck would someone who wanted the purest of photographs want second rate video?

I think u misunderstood what i meant or i didnt explain it properly. photographers (the typical target market), would not want video as it is not their field nor general interests. especially if they are artists who use photography.

I dunno, i see the convenience as i am a consumer. But if i were a professional photographer i would look at this as nothing more than a gimmick which would never get used. A bit like the camera in mobile phones, even if they are 5mp, the amount of noise is so high that unless in complete sunlight, would look terrible at best.

A better idea from a marketing point of view would be to incorporate this into the entry level DSLR market, to attract more consumers to the DSLR range.

Even the hardcore photographer needs a video capture feature to make his home-made pornos

that's true. The thought of having to capture video has never crossed my mind as I use my camera, but I guess having it and not using it is cooler than not having it at all. probably just wank factor.

It would be almost useless on a dslr if you're tracking a moving subject (unless af still works somehow), and having to manually zoom etc. sounds like more of a pain in the arse to get working well more than anything else.

It would undoubtably require an additional sensor for the video aspect, that or some tricky software involved. It's like camcorders shooting still photos, they are crap quality at best usually because the image sensor is WAY too small to take decent shots. JVC overcame this with 2 models of their Everio series by incorporating an additional sensor purely for taking photos (these sensors were bigger in size).

The hardcore photographer would use a separate camcorder as he/she would not settle for shit quality

doubt they'd throw another sensor in for video. If it's anything like the D90 it will be manual.
