i did some research and HKS and Blitz were the most dirtest and poor performer.

best was the Apexi one and also remember that this was the only one that was NON oil based.

isnt oil based filters bad for the AFM in due time?

i dont want to spend too much on an air filter, but i want something aftermarket now..

might just get the Apexi Kit,...the price is reasonable.

im going to get a reflash soon, so thats why i want the air filter on. (hopefully gain some more kw)

Paul, u getting the Apexi Box as well, or just an open pod filter? people have claimed a slight increase in power, but then again stock airbox is good for 260kw atw. Monkeysphere on EvoOZ tested that I think. you might notice a slight increase in torque, i reckon its just more noise man.

MRT did some reasearch on air filters for the 9 too and found the stock was quite good for light level mods.

          Gruppe M is sexy as!

i had my mind set on the K&N Typhoon kit, which is the exact same kit as the HKS Reloaded kit but at a cheaper price...like half the price of a HKS kit.

then i did some research and found that the oil based filters will cause harm to the AFM over time. A tested shows that the Apexi was best performer overall and is non oil filter.

how much is the Apexi boxed Filter? i was only looking at the open filter. That is around the $200 mark.

is it worth changing the OEM plastic tube from the turbo to the filter? ppl say its better air flow as there is no ripples and the OEM plastic will expand and contract.

i dunno lads, im in 2 minds and i need to make a decision before i do my reflash.

Derek - im not after noise as i got heaps of that already ahah

Stan - i heard that ISMR claim up to 10kw on a HKS kit, and like u said - with the filter lip cover off it will gain even more power...hmmm i have not heard a filter can give even 5kw at the wheels.

G - im more confused now, MRT say stock is good and i hear ISMR say there is 10kw gains!!!

mofo - i'm not 100% sure but if u correct for excessive 'leaness' then the gains became less is what I got from the jist of MRT.

Bang for buck wise keep the stock airbox, its exceptionally good and will not bottle neck under 250-260kw atw.
Basically it has been tested to not restrict at all up to 250-260kw atw. Some tuners will go as far as saying you will lose power with a pod and i have seen it in some cases. The other downside to just running a pod is the heat soak issue as it is not shielded anymore, enter the Monster PFX kit or the Gruppe M kit, also the HKS carbon airbox. My advice, should you choose to take it, would be that if your trying to save your pennies keep the stock box. I really doubt you will see any substantial gains with a pod even if you go to the Gruppe M like i have. If you have cash to throw around maybe consider it for the noise but if you do not care about the noise then just leave it, or at the least do it last.
I reckon maybe grab the intake pipe first. Did the K&N typhoon kit come with an intake pipe? if i remember correctly, the HKS one did, which might explain the price diff as well as the claimed 10kw increase from ISMR..

                        also found:
everyone keeps mentioning the oil-based filter and MAF blockage issue, but it doesn't seem to actually ever occur..
apparently only actually happens when the filter is over-applied with oil during cleaning
