This a common issue with a non-SP (Service Pack) version of Windows XP. Just upgrade to SP2 and you'll start seeing all 320gb.

To check if you've a service pack, Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > General. It should say something like,

    System:
    Microsoft Windows XP
    Professional 2002
    Version 2002
    Service Pack (1/2)

What poison said. If you have SP2 installed and still don't see your missing space then goto:

Control Panel -> Computer Management -> Disk Management

See if your missing space is there, as it may be as un-partitioned space. Either format it and leave it as a sperate partition, or combine it into your existing partition.

      Hope that helps.

Is it a legit XP CD?
If not then you need a 'bootable' CD.

nah its not but i've always used this cd... i've tested my other ide drive and it works fine

forgot to mention i have xp also installed on another hdd atm
the current master ide and one of my slave sata drives

do you think i should format the sata drive ? im still transferring files across cause i think the cpu is trying to boot from the sata drive??

EDIT: comp fixed, thanks to those who helped. had to play around with some cmos settings after i formatted my sata drive
