    NSW to force ethanol switch

    http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/...012582651.html

The State Government has signalled that it is going it alone on ethanol in petrol with Premier Morris Iemma announcing it will be make up 10 per cent of fuel in NSW by 2011.

Mr Iemma said the target would be subject to the findings of a taskforce that will consult with oil companies.

"Mandating the use of 10 per cent of ethanol fuel is not as simple as flicking a switch," he said.

"So we will be working through all the issues to ensure there is a reliable supply and community confidence in the product before mandating its use."

The federal government has so far refused to mandate to the national use of ethanol in fuel.

Last month, NSW Opposition leader Peter Debnam said a future NSW coalition government would look to introduce a mandated introduction of ethanol if oil compnaies did not agree to their own target.

Honda All Honda vehicles should use the fuel recommended in the Owner's Manual. The following models will operate satisfactorily on E10: Insight - 2004 onwards; Civic range (including Civic Hybrid) - 2004 onwards; S2000 - 2004 onwards; CRV - 2003 onwards; MD-X - 2003 onwards; Accord & Accord Euro - 2003 onwards. Honda does not recommend E10 for other vehicle models because there may be drivability issues.

Other Honda vehicles were not designed or tested with E10 and therefore the long-term effects are not proven.
....that is the rest of the quote!

          http://www.honda.com.au/wps/wcm/conn...wners/Ethanol/

all it means is that Honda has not tested it,

not that it does not recommend it...

if you can find any info as to why ethanol at 10% is bad, then i am all ears, but if it is just rehashed "ethanol-bashing-hype", perpare for flamage...

no...you get mothball, crush it up and put in with a tank of petrol.
                but disolve it all first.

Mythbusters did it and apparnetly the motor revved higher? I dunno I didn't watch the show.

I did this trick before mythbusters was even produced.

E10 would have a higher RON than ULP right?

                          ---------------------------------------------------------
                          Instant expert's guide

Research octane number, or RON, is loosely defined as a measure of how much power a fuel can deliver in an engine. The higher the RON, the more power a fuel can produce. Unleaded petrol generally comes in three RON ratings: 91 for basic unleaded, 95 for premium unleaded, and 98 for use in some high-performance engines. Unleaded petrol contains about 32 megajoules of energy per litre. One joule is the amount of energy it takes to lift a one-kilogram weight by 10 centimetres. As a rule of thumb, the lower the number of joules a fuel has, the more fuel a car's engine has to burn to cover the same distance as a higher joule fuel.

LPG is a blend of propane and butane gas. It has a RON of between 90-110, but has less stored energy than petrol, about 22 MJ/L.

Pure ethanol has a RON of about 115 and produces about 19 MJ/L. An E10 mix of 10 per cent ethanol and 90 per cent unleaded petrol has a RON of about 95 and produces about 23 MJ/L.
                          --------------------------------------------------------

So, even though Ethanol & LPG might possess higher ron over traditional petrol, since they contain less energy, it works out to be only around 60% as effective as Patrol. So, at the end of day, it works out to cost around the same.

What are the chances there is a tax on ethanol.
So we get taxed on petrol + ethanol....great!

even so, a push to a more renewable energy source would be beneficial.
