    what car for $10K ?

interested to hear suggestions, with a ~$10,000 budget what car should i get?
currently own light-tuned dc2r, may need to sell it (though i really don't want to ) for budget reasons and would b looking at downgrading to something in that price range..
it would b daily driven, has to b manual.
i can either get something horribly boring or something older but more fun, hopefully still reliable and not too exxy to run..have searched thru carsales etc and found a few interesting options..

*jdm CRX SiR '89 b16 vtec
    *jdm Z32 2seat N/A '92 vg30de
    *jdm Supra TurboA '88 7mgteu
    *jdm AE86 Levin

other cars include Prelude VTiR, FTO GPX's (theyve dropped in price a lot!), R31 GTS-R, R32 GTS-t, GZ20 Soarer (1G-GTEU, manual) Celica GTFour, S13, Starlet GT turbo (too exxy for small old car though) ..

most of the s13's and r32/r33s look really thrashed though..i want something reliable..

    opinions?

    Toyota Mark 1 MR2?

They're really fun to drive for sub-$10K?
    j0nbubz: RG's awp is LOL

If your downgrading from a DC2r due to budget reasons... i wouldn't be going to something with a big engine (such as the Z32 and supra) and 10 years older then the car you already own... cause then your just asking for trouble.

For example, the insurance for the supra is going to be more then/around the same as the teg.... and the 7mgte engine is known for head gasket problems... just for starters.

and the older the car, the more problems your likely to have with it..... even if it is a "low milage" import from japan.

for 10k you can pick up a nice example of a EG VTi.... or maybe even a suzi swift GTi

I was looking about for ideas for a car for a mate for about 10k and I found a few reasonable JDM CRXs for about that much. You could turn one into a good track car as well, and they would probably be fairly reliable, at least compared to imported turbo cars of that era.

          So JDM CRX SiR .

The other four cars on your short list (supra, 300zx, and ae86) are not exactly known for their legendary reliability are they?

mate check out the VW Golf VR6! true V6 grunt and sounds absolute horn with a decent amount of power and torque. It's the original predecessor of the Golf R32 we have today i believe...

It's something different and it's no slug.

            here's a nice example with heapsa goodies: http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/VOLKSWAGEN/GOLF/details.aspx?__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1| |pCar_ImageCount_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_Da teTime|1&Make=VOLKSWAGEN&__Nne=20&State=All%20Stat es&R=1283576&state_id=0&__N=4294962746+0+429496267 7+834+285+257&distance=25&__Dx=mode+matchany&trecs =7&Model=GOLF&__sid=10F1638C584E&__Ntk=CarAll&silo =1003&keywords=vr6&Cr=4&__D=vr6&seot=0&__Ntt=vr6&_ _Ntx=mode+matchallpartial

You'll love it, especially with the b16 is has in the SiR, super quick.

                        da9 integra?
you can pick up one for about 5-7k. Good daily driver, easy on fuel, reliable. My brother drives one to work everyday and the only thing that has failed for the last 3-4 years is the clutch (which needed to be replaced anyways). They're also fun to drive being nimble and light.

most 10k range cars are too old not reliable at all.

                            mm.. i like option (a) - keep my dc2r !!!

..but.., i may have to sell it if i run out of funds later this yr..
did a bit more thinking..u guys r right those big ones (soarer, supra, z32) r gunna b more exxy to run and maintain etc..in the end defeats purpouse of selling the dc2r! still i like the old school 80s jap GT style..esp the supra and soarer..
silvias in that price range all seem thrashed, ditto r32 skylines..tho i did find a nice r32 GTSt 4door, manual, stock as..

yeah jings micra looks cool, but being 192cm tall i dunno if i will fit and theres the safety issue, otherwise its a really cool little car..
SW20 MR2's are selling in that price range but again, though theyre sexy, ive sat in one and its a tight fit 4 me.

                            so:

                            *Honda CRX SiR ('89)
                            *Mitsubishi FTO GPX ('95)
                            *Toyota Levin AE101 ('94)
