    Stationary Cop cars

just wondering would a stationary cop car with speed camera ability (handheld as well) chase after you if u were speeding or would they get ur license plate or something???

My suggestion is to not speed as to not worry about it =)

However, I don't believe they will chase you if they were stationary and you were already in motion.

depends what sort of day they were having...

if you sped past a cop and they did not give chase, keep an eye on the letter box for the next 4-6 weeks for the fine...

If they didn't flag u down they weren't interested in you.
But if they tried to flag you down and you ignored it, you would of had a chase on your hands. LOL in that chase happy

Bring's back memories of a friend who hit 200 in his civic on the way down to melbourne.

We were slowing down when we passed a cop car going in the opposite direction. About 10 mins later he cuaght up to us and gave us a ticket for going 10 over the limit. mind you the driver didn't have a valid license. But eh the cop couldn't find that info out .

this is for qld so i dont know about other states, the po-po need photo graphic evidence of you doing that speed, so them just standing there with a radar gun and writing down plates and speeds isnt enough evidence for a ticket to be sent on a later date.

i regulary do 120-125 in a 110 zone and drive past cops with radars out the window and i have never been pulled over, excpet when i was doin 94 in a 60zone in brizzy city(vtec make you go faster then you thought)

                      Are you sure about that?
Afaik, cops from anywhere in Aust can find out anything about any Australian license holder if they ask for it.

Yes they can fine you - but its much more arguable as they cannot get a define spd on ur vehicle.
They can only do that if theyre stationary, or behind you.

this was in melbourne on they way to the city....
the cops were behind a billboard but u could see the entire car from about couple hundred metres away....didnt really click till i got closer but they were facing perpendicular to the road direction so i think all they had was a radar gun....

can they only take pics with those camera boxes next to the car?

In NSW, these are multiple styles of "speed enforcement" I've experienced.

Parked Car (Marked/Unmarked) Camera - This one gives you a Konica moment and will not chase you.

Parked Car/Bike (Marked) - Cop Laser Outside - This one will either stop you before you make it to them or if you fail to stop, their brethens will initiate a chase, takes them minimal effort on the BMW/Honda bikes.

Parked Car (Unmarked) Campers - They are using this tactic quite often now, these will start their heavy V8s with the cherries blaring and hunt you down, takes more time than above, but everything is video recorded now so if you don't catch you, eventually they'd find you in their RTA whitepages. The common areas spotted in the past month - (1) Entry to Anzac bridge from Victoria Road, parked in the broken/service bay. At least 2 weekend nights this has been in operation with different unmarked cars. (2) Botany Bay road, where it splits near Harris Technology travelling towards Mascot/Airport. Parked between cars at night, very very tricky and almost always a winner. We parked off the street and watch em action for 15 minutes and got one almost every minute.

They have a cop car with radar gun on the pedestrian Island when exiting Anzac bridge onto Victoria Road/City West Link and they have cops on both roads ready to catch you after you turn off
