I hope you think about that for a second. It could have been you, or one of your mates. It's your choice whether to take this lightly, or not. I am sure the driver of the car was "just having fun" but he's dead now and his family and friends have to deal with that.
As you all know I'm an advocate for driving fast off the streets (track days or drag nights) and I'm very much against driving over the speed limits on the "twisties".
I know a fair few of you love it, and I also know a fair few of you have had accidents out there too.
Sometimes I doubt that any of you love your family and friends enough as you greedily go out there and do stupid shit in your cars for kicks.
Apparently there were a fair few JDMST forum members there last night that were questioned by the Police who were interested in exactly how these people organise these events, whether it was through internet forums or other means. I can't help it if you're stupid enough to post things which will convict yourself on here but just remember that JDMST is a public forum and what you say here is most likely being read by certain authorities which you might despise, especially after last night.
...another wreck this morning on the M4...a 06 WRX clipped the centre divide and rolled multiple times...P-plater driver passed away in that one too...
RIP...I feel for the poor families who have to deal with such tragedies...
Simon, may you rest in peace. We'll miss you dearly.
Simon had also only recently bought his civic coupe which could have contributed to his passing. Im sure that it has been said before but 'take it easy'. But please don't try to prove a point when going for spirited drives.. It only causes one to push themselves and in that of-chance, may lead to injury or even death..
Sad to say, it's only a matter of time before the use of that piece of tarmac escalated to such high levels of attention from the media and law enforcement.
They didn't intentionally re-pave the roads to make it worse for no reason, the only point was in attempt to slow people driving/biking through that area at a reduced speed in aid of minimizing casualties. Not to mention, the now blanket 60KM/H reduced speed limit from 80KM/H.
Brisbane Waters HWP has been working hard over the years to crack down on illegal speed exhibitions. Unfortunately, the only way to stop this is to permanently close off that mountain pass. From head-on collisions on cruises from all types of clubs to endless write-offs and fatalities, the responsibility and how far you want to take it is in your hands.
Machinery gets engineered better, faster and safer. But engineering will never make up for the level of skill and roadcraft response of the operator. If you use that road, all I can say is, be careful and you're lucky if it's an uneventful outing. Otherwise, stay off it altogether. There is really nothing to prove, and no one to impress - The skies the limit.
RIP, not to a guy i knew but a fellow enthusiast. i hope his family and friends are coping with the tragedy. comes as a shock even though it souldnt be.

This is terrible news indeed... especially so for the family and friends of the driver. My condolences to those who are suffering the pain of his loss.

"And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high." - Ayrton Senna
Something like this was bound to happen sooner than later. Condolences to the drivers family.
But I can bet people will still go through that stretch of road for late night runs regardless of this incident. When will people wake up and stop dreaming on about how cool late night 'touge' runs are.
There is a group of idiots that used to (Don't know if they still do) go for practice runs on weekdays and then try to race on the weekend up at OP. Obviously been watching too much Initial D
From all the chatter in the forums, I don't think the guys that went had any intention of racing. They were there for a drive and someone overcooked it (So what else is new?).
Its unfortunate for the person and unfortunate for the car community because it brings unnecessary spotlight, negative press and alot of finger pointing (even within the community).
Reflect on this, for 1 high profile crash as this, there are many other mom and pop accidents with people in "normal" cars rolling, hitting trees etc etc.
I think there's no point wagging the finger at anyone saying "I told you so" nor is there anyone acting the "holier than thou" but just reflect what this accident means to you and how you'd act in future.
e240 - i dont see how this is a "high profile" crash at all? at least not in the mainstream media?
the WRX fatality on the M4 has got a lot more mass media air time... maybe simply due to the fact that a camera crew was able to get footage?
it is unnerving that i can't access JDMST during the day, as i was interested to see the reaction of my "morons" comment; made after one poster admited that they had already been diverted once by the cops once that night, yet still persisted in doing the runs...
So,what is the best solution to get all these people from doing touge runs?
1.Have more open days for late night quarter mile runs?
2.Open up the race tracks from morning to late at night?
3.Or do we need more avenues to race?
I believe we need more avenues and late night racing to reduce enthusists from getting into trouble with the police and the potential for killing themselves.

they didnt take it too well and told you to shutup LOL.
I mean yes you have made a very logical point and a point that everyone would be able to distinguish but maybe its not the time for nit picking. Thats basically what they said.
