US temp workers buying cars in Oz, Is it possible w/ a 457 Visa....

So I'm here on a 457 temp visa for the next two years however I do want to buy a car. Couple of questions:

1) Called the RTA on Friday and they said I don't need a NSW license since I'm a temporary resident. Only permanent residents are allowed to apply for a license. Is that true?

2) I want to take out a car loan from a bank. Will banks allow me to take out a loan without a NSW license?

3) Similar question to 2)...will insurance company insure me?

1.) anyone can apply for licence...just go and get one....
2.) They will need ur visa, proof of income and bank statement...
3.) Depends on what car you buying and ur age....if you buy an ITR and you are under 25 you may not be cover or the price will give u a heart attack....

banks generally don't give loans to people only staying in the country for a short time..... and most of them need you to work in a particular job for say 3 months before they even look into it.

Yeah had my colleague try to get a loan to buy a car...he's currently on a visa and waiting for PR...he had no luck at all with getting a loan in any means...it just won't happen unless you have PR and/or a citizen...
