When i attempted to drive a car down from melb to syd i called up rta. To which they advised the following.

    1. go to queensland rta or watever their counterpart there is
    2. surrender your plates to them
    3. ask them to issue you with a temp plate
    4. drive down to melb with temp plate
    5. do your rcv
    6. register the car

I advise you to ring up vic roads to confirm the excat procedures. If you asked them excatly what you worded here you should get a clear and confirmed answer.

u can drive a qld car on vic licence. As long as a car is registered, you can drive it anywhere on any licence.

i bought my car from nsw and drove it back to qld.
so long as the car is registered, you can drive it interstate but you must change your plates and register your vehicle with the State's transport authority within 3 months.
