    Honda Civic ED w/ B16 Turbo EF9

My love affair began with this car when I was 18. Straight out of high school and landing my first job; I just couldn’t wait to own my first car. So I went with the folks to help me buy a car and from the moment I first saw her I fell in love. With her frost white paintjob and racing streak stickers on both sides, I knew I just had to have her. With her 1.5 twin carby engine, I zipped her out of the dealership with a $13,500.00 loan.

After a couple of years driving the car, I blew the head gasket. My first lesson in taking care of a car…always checks the oil and water! I was at a crossroads; either spend $1,000 getting her fix or spend a little bit more and try and get more power. Well that little bit more turned out to be a whole lot more as after doing my research, I came to the conclusion that an engine conversion was the best option as the 1.5 twin carby was not a good platform to begin with.

After scouring around for a suitable donor, I managed to source a crx half cut from Japan for $2,500 I then turned to Charlie (GPC) as he was the sensei in Honda engine conversions at the time. After many months watching the car from the sideline, the shy 1989 Honda Civic ED emerged as an absolute tarmac tearing B16a Civic with an EF9 front. The whole conversion cost me about $6,000 at the time including all the fuel and brake upgrade.
After many more years of pretending to be a boy racer; I started to get too desensitized with the nimble nature of the car. About 5 years ago I decided that the ultimate path with my first love was to go Turbo. I spent a lot of time researching what is the best option and at the time the TO4 Turbonetics kit from America provided the best value for money at $4,000. While waiting for the Turbo kit from America, I decided that she needed a colour change as the white paintjob was getting too old. I went for a Purple Black Pearl finish and as soon as I saw the paintjob the excitement came back to me. At that moment I knew I was going all out.

I bought all the parts needed to for a forged bottom end and matched with a ported polished head with Type R cam sitting on Skunk2 Upgraded valve train and cam gear. The whole trial and error process took a full 3 years! Varying issues from cam problems (never buy Blox crap!), Turbo changes, Radiator issue to engine management and tune issues. I changed from Turbonetics T03/04 to a Garrett T28 Disco Potato as well as EMS ECU (Powertune) to Haltech (Bel Garage) to finally a Hondata S200 tuned by Adrian at Toda providing the best combination with a very driveable 170KW ATW.

I didn’t realize at the time that time away and constant issues would stretch my relationship with the car not to mention a new emerging love story with an Integra DC5 which also has a very interesting history that ended in a K24 transpalnt (that’s a separate story altogether). After a 3 year build, I just didn’t feel the same about the car anymore. My taste in vehicles have changed and the car has been spending many lonely nights in the garage alone unappreciated.

After a 14 year affair and around $50,000 later, it has come to me that it is time to move on and part ways with my baby. For someone else to give her the time and attention she deserves. So here it is your chance to get a bargain! Please note that asking price is absolutely firm. If you don’t have $10,000.00, don’t even try to contact me. If your $1.00 less, don’t even call me. You will not find a similar car anywhere close to the price I’m asking.

The car has never been dragged or tracked, tyres are Hancook Ventus K104 and is practically brand new. The car has done 169,000Ks and ahve been absolutely taken car off. Hardly driven and would probably only done 4,000K's after the turbo engine build.
