    lap timing

does anyone here have proper lap timing equipment (as opposed to a mate with a stopwatch)?
a few friends and i have been looking into getting one of these:
an AIM Sport infra red laptimer - MyChron Lite TG

    linky:
    http://www.aimsportsystems.com.au/car.htm

price is $449, and it offers an InfraRed lap receiver and transmitter, display with current lap time and best lap time, 128kb memory, 2000lap storage capability, and internal (battery) power.

    looks tempting..

has anyone used a combination palm PDA + GPS receiver + software like this:
            http://www.schlangmann.mynetcologne.de/HarrysLapTimer/

to get lap times and general data logging?
i am considering it as an alternative to what szy has mentioned in his first post.

I'd like to know how well the setup works with a 1Hz GPS receiver... or whether higher rates are needed for good results etc etc?

it would also work quite well as a sat nav too..

This sounds good...though I'm not sure who'd want to fork out the $$ to buy one LOL
