the car will be LUCKY to get 100kms a week, more like 50, and im not crazy about having 2 sets of tyres for a car i rarely use, so i am looking for a compromise tyre. It is a street car after all, if i were to split it up, it would be 75% street use, and the rest on track... its just im used to have the 215's now, and want something that will really kick ass on the track...

Im interested on first hand accounts on street use for this tyre... i understand it wont be great in some areas, and i understand that, but hearing someones experiences makes it easier to make a decision.

i ran on dunlop D01J's for 13'000km and on Toyo Proxis RA1's for 12'000km...

on the street, semi-slicks with wide tread block patterns (ie.e D01J, R888) are bad in the wet, but fantasic in the dry.

the RA1's (more intricate tread blocks) were fantastic in the wet and fantastic in the dry

      it is that simple.

it was funny when i used to turn up to the track with D01J's on my 16in rims, then change to a set of 15in rims with RA'1 on them...

people always seemed confused to watch me do that

sweet, well they are only marginally wider than the rt 215's so it just means more conservative driving in the wet...

i got the R888's last Thursday.... my first impressions are

          1) **** they are soft
          2) how the **** did i used to take that corner
          3) **** they are noisey!

For what i use my car (not a lot) they are fantastic, i am very pleased with them, but i didnt realise the compromise for street use IN TERMS OF NOISE) was so great, having said that it doesnt have an interior in it at the moment so that adds to it...

i took a couple of my favourite corners, including a couple of tight and right handed of camber corners just for good measure, and the sticking power is incredible... initial turn in is fantastic, i think mostly because i dropped back to a 195 width from the 205's before, the car tracks beautifully and mid corner adjustability is simply on another plain compared to the rt215's

But yeh, after Wakefield this Thursday i may considering getting a second set of rims for the street... or i might just harden the **** up and get over it...

my only regret is the road noise... cant have everything... ive done my 500kms of easy driving so im ready for it!

if you think R888 are noisy
You should give RE55S a go sometime
sounds like a turbo-prop plane is flying next to you ahhahaha
            but better all-round performer though

i used my Dunlop D03's for 3 days in a row at Mt Panorama, Bathurst for FOSC!

These tyres are great, unlike the Toyo R888's which get 2 hot 2 quickly these last for much longer times.. so R888s are great for events like super sprints but for long sessions like i did at bathurst(long track) the D03s where great!!!

                          great tyre really gripy!

                            aren't D03 a lot more expensive though?
or are they similarly priced over east?

                              no way, d03's are 320+ like RE55's

MX5mania rate D03's to be like the fastest tyre. They love them...

Would like to try them out, but def going for a set of R888's - I have only used 3 year old Kumho V700's.
