Gearbox oil

I paid $180 for redline, and it is worth it... I have been told by alot of people that Redline is the best they have used, thats why i bought some.

Got it from Autobarn but they had to order it in for me cos they had none of the light weight oil....

Hey all.. I seem to get the 3rd gear pop out with Honda MTF.
Only solved this with Amsoil Syncromesh. Down side is that is about $20 a quart + delivery.
But shifting feels alot smoother and no pop outs.
I've been told the notchyness of DC5 gearbox is solved with stronger shifter cable bushings, but people who have done this seem to report problems with shifting into reverse? Could anybody describe what kind of trouble this is as I'm thinking of switching out the stock bushings sometime soon but don't want to be causing traffic in the city whenever I need to reverse park.

When you change the bushings, reverse will be harder but i found it got easier after a week or so.. i also put car in first(with out releasing clutch) and then into reverse, makes it even easier i find.. Since i changed the bushings i've done 40k and changed oil twice(honda oem). No pop out since changing! Gears are a little more tight i would say and u have to be really precise but still feels better than before!

and read up/ask them on the proper way to install it if you decide on the Shockproof...

People seem to be torn between MTL and lightweight shockproof in the other thread. Also I did msg redline directly but they haven't gotten back to me yet

What do you use tinkerbell? And isn't installing shockproof the same process as any other gearbox oil?

i have a DC2 Integra VTiR that has a S80 gearbox. i use straight lightweight shockproof.

i have heard that 'lightweight' might be too thick for a DC5 gearbox... but dont know for sure.

i have heard a blend of 'lightweight' and 'superlightweight' might work...

regarding the "installation" of the oil - it is a different type of oil, so doesnt mix with other types of 'normal' oil very well - which means you must evacuate as much old oil out for it to work perfectly.

i did this by rebuilding the gaerbox so it was perfect to change oils on.

but you might have to flush the gearbox with redline, that is - drop old oil, fill with redline, drive 100km, drop the redline and refill with redline...
