    Gearbox oil

    Hey all,

Was just reading this thread and thought i hear everyone's opinion.

    http://type-r-owners.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?74549-Transmission-oil.

The service log says to replace it every 80k.. Myself i've changes it 3 times since ownership And am planning to change it every 15-20k klm. My preference for this is labour on a gearbox/transmission is very costly so a small cost to replace oil is pretty much a fraction for a rebuild. I think Charger changes his every 10k. I remember back when i had my car (mind you the dc5 was thecar i learnt manual in)... I was thinking... Am i driving wrong/poorly/sloppy? Because my 3rd gear would pop out every now and then. I changed my oil and it was perfrct.. I also noticed some drvers like to use royal purple or redline gearbox fluid yet this thread says the complete opposite

Well i know with the k series gearbox, cos its a short ratio gearbox, u be changing gears all the time in traffic.. So i woyld change it every 20k to be safe... Compared to friends in b/h series.. They can just leave it in 3/4 gear.

You are right I change my gearbox oil very often, every one or two track days so every 2500-5000km. My gearbox is starting to get a bit nasty with changes into 4th gear pretty crunchy, but I think this is more a poor use and abuse issue rather than any failure of my maintenance regime.

If you do any sort of performance/track driving I would change more often than the 80,000km interval recommended in the service manual.

Also THIS is a relevant thread.

I change mine farely often too... After track day is a must... otherwise, every 20.000km the latest or earlier... Depending on my mood :P

            I use OEM : )
