    DC5 Type S Idling

Every now and then my DC5 will start idling at 2000rpm and gradually go back down to a normal 900rpm.

I usually punch the clutch and rev it out a little and it seems to go back to normal. Don't really know how this would help but it seems to do the trick.

Just wondering if anybody's had this or a similar problem and what you did to fix the issue?

On cold morning my Dc2 rev's at 1,800 and slowly drop to normal 800 or so. Asked the boys they said its normal. Im the type of person to let the car warm up naturally. Revving it is causing it to heat up faster. That's why it then idles lower. But like 60% of engine ware comes at start up. I read this some where so i don't recommend revving it!!!!!!!!

Thanks Guys. Problem seems to be on and off for most days, even if the car has warmed up completely.
Might give the IACV a clean this weekend, hope this clear it out. i-vtec - What did you use to clean it out?

Basicly any thing to remove carbon build up. Also try Nulon Total Fuel system cleaner. That cleans your injectors, combustion chamber's and inlet valves. That may help smooth idling.

pull it down and use carby cleaner mate.. i very much doubt many honda vtec owners have dirty chambers and inlet valves lol but i dont reken the fuel cleaner works to well... cause yeah its job might be to clean everything... but where is it releasing all the crap???? through the eye of the injector!

Hey all. Pulled out the throttle body the other weekend. and gave the the butterfly and the IACV a blast with Carby cleaner. Rough idling solved.
All in all pretty easy job. Took about an hour and a half, mainly because the radiator hose was a bit stiff and hard to remove and I didn't take note of how the hoses or clips were positioned so I had very small drips coming through.
