Rear lower tie bar effectiveness?

Just curious to know whether getting a rear lower tie bar (to join the rear lower control arms) on our cars will have any effect? I don't like wasting money on non functional parts and would like to know if anyone knows about any improvements it could add. I'm under the impression it's just for looks and the stiffening effect is negligible.

Pretty much any bar except sway bars have very little effect. The strut, tie, pillar etc bars are only for chasing that last 1/10th of a second on the track.

They are all pretty much a waste of money if you are after bang for buck.
