    Final Drives

This item dosen't seem to be a common item talked about amoung mods.

    Points of interested include:
    - What are the most popular brands of FD
    - Most popular spec of FD
    - The results of putting in an FD
    - Prices! (If you don't mind sharing)

People who have done this mod would be the most welcome to share their experience.

      - What are the most popular brands of FD -- ats, honda oem
      - Most popular spec of FD -- varies to cars and its gearing ratio, ie echo would be differnet to say gtr
      - The results of putting in an FD -- torque mutliplication across the rev range, speedo speed reading issues, faster revs
      - Prices! (If you don't mind sharing) -- ats is around 1200-1300

hey Vin that was my spread sheet on gear ratios but you should be able to play around with the Final drives i believe.. in the custom gearbox part and see what speeds each gear will take you too

i only really know of ATS, spoon? (OEM spec?),i believe toda has a Fd as well..

and whats wrong with yours now ? im sure theres other stuff u can mod other than FD? not to mention the labor of getting someone to rip appart a gearbox and install a new FD for you =P or diy (with help from the resident mod with gearbox DIY thread?)

Vincent, if it's you who wants to get one, don't get one. Use the money you are going to use for FD to go to more track days instead.

on the DC2 typeR tab you have got ATS Final Drive twice. and both use 4.992 as the final drive.. they are the same as far as i can see.

why not make one of them 4.992 and the other 5.077 (ATS offer these two final drives for DC2)

                ??

i reckon fitting a 5.077 FD would be awesome.. 6.1% more torque (171Nm->181Nm) and 6.1% lower top speed in each gear:

                      stock = 4.785

                      4.785 5.077
                      1 63.7 60.0
                      2 97.7 92.1
                      3 141.0 132.9
                      4 198.9 187.4
                      5 161.3 246.2

wouldent you be cruising around in 5th gear at like 4000 something RPM =P...or higher ?

actually how did you calculate the torque?

Yeah i'm running an ATS 4.9 FD in my civic. It's great, buy far one of the best mods to improve acceleration.

On the highway i'm at about 3900rpm at 100kph. Only problem is after i modded my car more, and added extra power to it, i have trouble getting traction when taking off from first.

gearing only involves multiplies and divides.. so 5.077/4.785 = 1.06102

so that means it will give 6.1% more torque

                              1.06102 * 171Nm = 181.4Nm

                              yeah.. 120km/hr = 4097 rpm
                              110km/hr = 3756 rpm
