    Braided Line Failure - Brakes

Well I've got the Goodridge brake lines and looks like its burst out the side on the front right line .. Fun fun dodging cars through a red light.

So question is can I get a single braided line from goodridge? Can i repair it somehow / i.e. cut it, join it with connectors?

thanks .. Fucking sick of shit breaking now. REALLY fucking sick of it.

Why would you want another Goodridge line after a failure like that? What caused the failure?

My fuckup it seems -- But I can't believe it could happen in an hour of driving. Seems the line MAY have contacted the axle because after i put the wheel back on I didnt zip tie the line to the LCA...

But honestly -- I can fathom that it'd wear through a BRAIDED line like that SO quickly? It really does look like its burst out though, and i felt it give when i put the brakes on for a quasi-emergency stop (i.e. didnt see the red light ahead).

I'm assuming a braided line specialist could make something suitable up?? Anyone got experience here?

Only solution i've got at the moment is to put an old rubber line back on in its place.

i'd say get HEL, they are coated with some plastics and made completely of stainless steel. I think the goodridge connectors are made from zinc coated mild steel.

Ok -- Yep i've fucked both front lines. So i need two -- Do you know if they supply individual lines or do i have to buy the full kit?

They seemed to be doing the job well until I fucked up.

Ah okay then, from the tone of your original post I had guessed that maybe the failure was unexpected or the fault of the line itself. The braid doesn't have much abrasion resistance, Wlee2 had one fail after rubbing on his wheel after the cable tie securing it broke.

From my limited knowledge of brake line construction I believe that the actual tubing used in braided lines doesn't have a whole lot of burst strength, most of the strength comes from the stainless braid itself so once that fails you are going to have issues. This is unlike the OEM lines that are fibre reinforced within the rubber, much like a garden hose for example.

Get a whole new set IMO.

Thanks mate - yeah I couldn't believe how weak it is! I've actually worked out the cause now. The clip on the dust boot on the outer CV kept clipping it each time the wheel hit a bump..

Fuck I am really really glad in retrospect that nothing worse happened -- I was fanging around Mt Cotton only an hour earlier.

Competition friction make up custom lines that are ADR compliant. You can probably just get the 2 front ones made up. Just send them your lines and they will copy them.

                  thanks mate.

I looked at the HEL kit -- I like how the rubber is external with the braid internal..

Thanks for heads up -- yep will post pics for anyone intersted.
