    help mounting laptop DC2 (rear)

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?

I want to mount the laptop preferrably in the rear of the car.. maybe on the back seat facing forwards.

Needs to be done reasonably well as i dont want it flying around the car as its for a track day.

There is a reason why laptops and computers are not used in those applications, i would have to ask you to heavily rethink your choices.

Just get yourself a laptimer for $400 and be done with it.

I honestly couldnt see this as a smart way of timing yourself. Laptop damage? In the event of a crash is the mounts certified to not chuck the laptop into your head?

        ETC ETC

unless you make a bracket for the laptop..

the only way i can think of restraining a laptop down on the rear seat is to use like a belt.. and go around the keyboard section under the seat.. and just tighten =P..

and the reason he wants a laptop in his car is because hes going to leave the screen saver on in marquee mode and use the message DANGER TO MANIFOLD!!!...

u can get the best bracket made but then if u undersatnd even the slightest about computers u will note that small bumps during constant hdd operation is just about the best way to stuff up your computer.

Of course u can get those panasonic tough books which weigh a ton and potentially cuase more mounting issues and a heavier object to hit your head with.

seems that even when people mount their hard drives "firmly" to their cars like straight onto the floor... they dont have failures.

i suspect that mounting my laptop securely on the rear seat will provide good shock protection and better vibration protection than whats common in these in-car mp3 setups.

Obviously i am not just going to leave the thing sitting on the back seat with one cable keeping it down.. i understand that its dangerous to have loose heavy pointy objects in the car..

i am starting to think about using some velcro strips/straps and some bungee type cords..

Also i should not need the laptop to be open while driving.. it just needs to be there to record the data, make calculations, tell me my laptime.

a lap timer only tells me how slow i am.. a GPS based data logging setup can tell me why i am slow... so i can get faster.

and it gives me an interesting project to work on.. see i am a software engineer.

maybe a pda would be more suitable for the purpose? can you see yourself doing the same projet on a pda? some of the pdas have gps recievers too already included.

yeah that is what i wanted to do originally.. cos then you can just mount the pda facing the driver on the dash where the AC vents are..

but I dont have a PDA (Costs about $300 for a good new one) and i already have a laptop.

Also there is this whole USB is a master/slave connection and most (if not all) PDA's are slave so they cant talk to USB GPS.. while you can go PDA->bluetooth->gps.. the 4Hz GPS i managed to find that was not overly expensive was USB...

so yeah... this way i just have to buy the 4Hz GPS evaluation kit..

                            interesting.

i mean u dont need to view the laptop when u r driving, u just need it to datalog then u can see it in the pits? If so then just try and mount it in the boot. No matter what happens then it will never be a danger to you.

Velcro it all up and hope it doesnt move from ur cornering g forces.
