I think he was actualy talking about "short shift kits"... not short shifting like you've explain above.
Apparently the short shift kit adds more stress to the gearbox (From what I've been told with a quick chat to my mechanic about it). It was a while ago, and it was only a quick chat so I'm not 100% sure about it.
I don't understand how it could. Short shift kits just change the amount of throw needed to move the cables. It speeds up changes so it theoretically shouldn't be any different (load wise) to a fast gear change with a regular shifter.
No. Type R has metal bushings and a really nice direct meaty feel from factory. I found the standard Type S throw quite vague compared to the Type R. It's an easy fix though.
