Viscous Short Shifter - No Reverse?

I grabbed a Viscous short shifter the other day and after what seemed to be an easy and pain-free install I went out for a drive. Upon reaching a court I tried to get my car into reverse but found out I could not. What has happened is that the 2nd part of the adapter which controls the throws from side to side does not sit forward enough for some reason, meaning that all the gears are to the right slightly. i.e. 1st is where 3rd should be and since 6th is reverse, there is no more room for reverse. I am currently running only the first half of the shifter which controls the vertical axis but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what a possible fix is?

I used to have strutking (which has the same design as viscoustech) and never had any issue..
