    VTEC not kicking in?

    Hi all,

I just got my DC2 type R last week. i have some questions about it. I'm not sure whether my vtec is kicking in....

When im driving and taking it hard and taking rpm to 8000 there is no change in sound from 4000-8000. Ive driven other dc2 type r's years ago and remember that about 5500-6500, the sounds of the engine goes absolutely feral but mine just drones.....

At what rpm does vtec meant to kick in at? And does you guys notice a huge difference in engine sound when it does?

Finally how do i check whether vtec is operational or not?

    Cheers

BTW i got it serviced at Hanny's in smithfield from reading the threads here. They were great highly recommedned. Robert actually used to go around with honda racing years ago. He knows his hondas like the back of his hand!

Some more details would help Tuan. Like has your car done 300,000 kms or is it around 100,000 kms? Service history? Engine modifications/ rebuilds/ Aftermarket ECU ? Maybe you could take it back to Hanny's and ask them to take a look for you..

        Thanks guys,

car has done 110,000Kms. Perfect service history at honda dealership. Serviced every 6 months. No engine mods. No nothing really. All stock standard. Only a new cd player....

Yes, think i will take it back to Hanny's and get then to drive it to see if it is meant to be like that.

        Cheers guys, appreciate the info.

to check if vtec is operational, diy a "vtec light", which will light up indicating you hit vtec

Ok people, i took off the airbox lid this morning, actually undid two screws and the third wouldnt budge so i ended up breaking the box! But its ok as it goes back alright. I drove around the block and back waiting for temp to be upto speed.

I took it to 6000rpm and yes it howls like a banshee. So many thanks. Im confident my vtec is working. I took it back home and put the two screws back smiling all the way.

                      Cheers
