Hard to get into gear

Asking for a friend,

What does it mean when its hard to get into first gear from at some lights, everything else is fine, he can get into first by putting into 2nd first.

I thoguht it was syncros but thought i'd open it to the floor

WHOA WHOA WHOA... hold your horses there... the amount of information you've given us is totally over whelming.

A good start would be to know what kind of car is having the problem... then the above two posts would be good follow up questions, then knowing something about the cars history (IE Is it driven often, if so is it hard driving or granny spec etc), when was the last time a gearbox oil change was done?

With the amount of information you've given us in your original post, I'm going to assume that your friends car is a MY99 WRX and is running a "dog box", so selecting 1st gear is normally a pain with these types of gearbox's. Also tell him that the whine is normal.

its a dc2r, yeah complete stop and yeah only symptom
i've felt it before, feels like the "gate" isn't opening for the gear so its not like its not going in properly like a reverse gear

i get that sometimes in my EP3, sometimes very smooth, some times feel like the "gate" isn't opening :S. i would also like to know.

i get that every now and then but i just tap the trottle and it meshes in nice....corrent me if im wrong but u aint really ment to go into 1st unless ur at a complete stop anyway

Can be done still going 10-20km/hr.

I always thought having a hard time getting into first was a normal thing.
