K20A3 with a K20 head

    K20A3 with a K20 head

    Hey guys, im thinking bout doing work to my K20a3. As we all know the K20A3 Doesn't redline as high as the K20a2 (plus the others) and also doesn't produce anywhere close to the power these other K20a's due to the Cams and VTEC.. Etc Etc...

    So any suggestions on how to work my K20A3 to get a better power output and higher rev range...

    I have thought about the K20A head on the K20A3 Block, then buying a Hondata or just a Type S ECU..
    Plus adding the Injen CAI. to gain power...

    Thought on this would be great...

      throw in some cam + tune or turbo it.

      seing someone selling the skunk2 k20a3 stage 2 cam for like 8++.

      or, get full k20a or a2 with lsd, pretty sure u cant put a2 head on a3 due to the clearance among piston n valve.

          Seems like the logical choice you would think.. how much money would you need to make a non type r into a type r? Id think it would be a lot more than the price difference

              Probably not going to find many people around here that have done exactly what you are trying, however i do know prusso has done some work to his base/lux dc5. Maybe shoot him a pm see what he has done and if he was happy with results etc?

              Also have you already done anything else to the car? Would i/h/e be a better starting point?

                That seemed fairly useful.

                As has been said many times before, across many differant forums…

                There is a lot more of a difference then just the engine when it comes to a base and Type R Integra.

                But if you want to keep you current car, do some basic stuff to it (Wheels, lower, exhaust, intake) and if you still want it, seriously looked into (Read: Research) what mods you can do with the K20a3 to up the power... or sell it and buy and EVO.

                Note: IF your car is semi-auto (I don't know if it is or not), you'll have a fair bit of difficulty getting an aftermarket ECU to work, so that can play a major part in your decision of if you still wanna mod you car.

                  any particular reason you wouldnt want to just sell up and get an R?

                  you would be getting alot more for your money i would think... i.e. suspension, 6spd, recaros, more power, resale value...

                    Look champ, Go to a wreckers & buy a k20a2 or k20z (the greatest motor ever), sit it in your garage, strip it, rebuild it with only the best of the best, once its built remove your old motor & sell for some money back & do the swap with an aftermarket ECU and your laughing!

                    its kinds like:

                    1)Buy Motor
                    2)???
                    3)Profit!

                      yeah my car is Manual not auto..
                      ATM it's lowered and has 2.25" exhaust system from the cat back..
                      Looking at getting T1R headers and Injen CAI from JDMyard

                      I have seen that Skunk2 have mods for the A3..
                      so maybe i will just see how all that stuff goes, then decide..

                      Yeah if i could pick up a JDM K20A for cheap (dont think they are cheap) i would do a swap...

                      Anyway i will just see what mods i can buy for it..
                      I know Hondata have the Base modle Reflash...

                        Do the basic stuff and see how you feel once you've done them.

                        I know Tofu from this forum use to have a base semi auto (Prior to getting his Type S), and he did full exhuast and intake, and suspension and sway bars, and he said the car would keep up with almost anything in the twisties... but when it came to the straights... he would be left for dead.

                        Can you put K-pro on a a3? I was having a look through K-Manage (K-pro tuning program) the other night, and I thinki saw a tune for a a3 on there... i could be wrong.

                        Also depends what you are building the car for?

                        Plan on tracking it?

                          If you are serious about a K hybrid/conversion then I suggest you contact DR HONDA on this forum as he is the leading K series specialists. It may save you alot of headaches and some money.

                            Hmm plans for just Daily drive with the sometimes track days. So sway bars and full coils will be put on later..
                            Hmmm i do think the K-Pro can be used in the A3, just not sure what kinda of increase it creates..

                            Hmmm still undecided as to what i will do..
                            im open to any ideas.

                              I'm dead serious when I say the best thing to do is sell the base and get a Type R. The money spent on getting the R would be alot less than trying to build something with similar performance. Sinking money into a base is a short sighted and somewhat foolish idea.
