    HU Error-17

    Hi everyone,

Got a problem with my headunit (Pioneer DEH-P6350). I was using it on my drive to melbourne last sunday. I turned it off and later when I turned it back on it gave me "Error-17". It won't play any CD's at all. I can hear short little blips from the motor trying to spin up a CD and trying to read it. Radio still works, but when I load a CD I don't even get a track number, just a few noises and a blank screen and then "Error-17". I tried removing the positive batt terminal to clear out the settings and reset it that way but it still not working. Also tried a cd len cleaner on it but that was no help as well.

Any ideas on what to do or is it fried and I have to get a new HU?

    Thanks,

    Richy

last time i checked a pioneer manual, at the back in the troubleshooting section it has a list of error codes... should have error 17 listed to tell you what is wrong...

well if you've tried different discs and it still shows the same error, i would say that there is a laser fault (mechanical problem)... that's my guess... its not something you can fix yourself unless you can pull it apart and you know what you're doing... if its under warranty just send it away for repair... might be cheaper buying a new deck...

if it's out of warranty, take it out and give it a good smack or drop it from a small height (15-30cm). if it's not working anyway it's worth a shot. it might dislodge any foreign objects that might be stuck in there or push the laser back into alignment if its out. sounds ridiculous but it worked with my old cheapshit cd player.

disclaimer: if it fucks up because you drop it or smash it, then it's all on you.

Thanks guys. Think I'll just get a new HU after I do what Thanh suggested which I was going to do next anyways since its out of warranty already.

Eddie: I used the lens cd cleaner but it doesn't help.

Does anyone have any links on how to remove the headunit because this is the HU that came with the car and I never took/installed one in a DC2R before?

There are two screws (5mm) behind head unit, you need 8mm spanner or 8mm socket to un-screw then pull out HU. it is a bit tricky to see those screws, you have to stick your head under the dash to see it. Good luck.

Thanks tegDC2R. I'm still having trouble locating the two screws. All the audio cable/wires are blocking my view. I removed the ashtray and looked from the front http://www.team-integra.net/sections...?ArticleID=125 like in this link. Still can't see it.. think i'm blind. There's mdf on each side of the HU and EQ which is screwed into the side of the metal frame thing.
