BTW - if you are getting normal street tyres (like the pilot precedas) to fluctuate by 7-10PSI on the track - then you are might need to consider whether you are overdriving them?
Ahhh, I missed the working down from there point... Makes sense to me now

The only street tyre that I've used which is remotely in the same league as the Pilot Precedas are RE050As, so I don't know if my comments are valid to the OP. From what I remember, I got these to fluctuate at least 5psi which is probably due to my over-driving style ...

      Hey tinks
i was referring to this, not what you were on about.

I was also just giving my view on it. like others have said, personal preference.

I didn't realise, since you didn't quote him eh?

maybe cam can tell us if he runs 40psi?

FWIW - i run 37psi COLD on 205/50R16's... but don't get abnormal centre wear... but i run nitrogen too...

Wat. Are you suggesting that Nitrogen is a magic gas, and that it doesn't approximate an ideal gas?

I normally run 34-36 psi cold on the street, but since my tyres need replacing and I noticed the outer edges of my tyres are bald, I've been running 40 psi all around

need to ask, how many people let their car stand for a while at the servo before checking their tyres? mine is usually only 5 or so minutes whilst i fill up with gas....then i do my tyres...

ive always found 36psi to be perfect for my car, or maybe its prefect for me and how i expect it to feel and handle.....

not sure if that means 36 hot, cold or warm...haha

                  HOT = track racing.

tyres never get HOT on the street.

if they do - you are being reckless and irresponsible...

so yeah, warm is from normal driving, and raises the pressure a little bit... so leaving it stand might let it cool a little bit.

but - the IDEA is to know consistently what the pressure is compared to usage.

no use comparing tyre pressure measured just after you leave home to when you just pull off the freeway 150km later...

so my strategy was to set mine (when i was not running nitrogen) at the BP servo at my local shops.

not only was it always working (!) but it was only a short distance from home, so my tyres were as COLD as possible.
