    Intermitant clicking noise..

It started 2 days ago, i noticed a (reasonably loud) clicking noise when i was turning the wheel left... It happened a few times, and continued while i was driving straight.

I thought it may have been a stick caught or something, or possibly a CV? So i checked and nothing.

The noise has just come back this afternoon whilst turning left again, and then continuing on while i go straight. It seems to follow the rotation of the wheel..

I thought of CV and wheel bearing, but there is no grease around the joints, and i'd imagine the wheel bearing would make a more constant sound? Not intermittently like it is now.

    Any ideas?

when my noise started, it was hard to tell if it was engine, gearbox or just shafts...

but turning the engine off and putting it in neutral quickly indicated it was shaft related...

steve - i might be getting my shaft fixed (reconditioned) by a bloke i trust out rydalmere way... how bad is the noise?

We'll id like to learn more about it.. I didnt hear it all day untill just then.

The noise is not EXTREMELY bad, but its quite noticable - and thats bad enough... Especially coming up to the CC track day, id like it fixed.

When i get my gauge installed ill ask Ben to have a look, and if its shotted - ill need to buy a new or recon'd one..

                So ill let you know!

Its just weird that it doesnt happen on EVERY left turn, only intermittantly..

it depends on the engine load on whether it clicks.

no load = there is no counter force and equilibrium...

if you back off or increase load the shaft will either be trying to accellerate or decelerate relative to the road, so is more likely to make noises...

Its not the valve clearances.. and it occures under minimal load.. Not when the wheel is spinning quickly.

More when backing off and at 10-20kmph..
