    Alternator troubles

    hey all

got a unusual issue with my dc2R's alternator.. noticed a ticking sound coming the engine bay around idle to 2500RPM,

I though at first it maybe the timing belt starting to split and hit on the it's cover , or possibly a valve adjustment. was very odd how suddenly started making a noise one thrusday afternoon last week.

Timing belt was replaced 30000km's ago and valves weren't out of spec even tho i readjusted them any way while the cover was off.

then after all of that same noise was stile present, so i though maybe the alternator might be the cause of this taping noise, as my DC2R has had a doff doff system installed by the previous owner (no longer in it)

Ive heard that depending on the size of the sound system they can over load alternators and cause them to over heat, might be bearing failure/dry

i pulled the alternator out and found that there was no heat damage at all but the bearings were stile naked, the cause of this is why I'm posting to see if any 1 els has seen or heard of this or seen it

Ive found that my armature is bent.. (eccentric) when i spin the alternator you can see the pulley wobble, tomorrow I'm going to put it on V blocks at work. Looks like a new alternator to me,,, does any one knew how much one costs ? wouldn't be cheap. I stile cant believe its stuffed.. the car's only done 80000km's and i can't see any signs of it being hit.

unusual huh ? what do you guys think ?

quite unusual, it is almost classifiable as "ultra-rare"!

it could have been struck by a rock? maybe? any marks?

perhaps the belt had been done up too tight previously and somehow managed to damage the bearings causing the pulley to wobble?

shafts defiantly bent, i put it on V blocks today, got .08mm deflection guess that doesn't seem like much but defiantly makes the pulley wobble at the end of the shaft

I cant see any signs of it being hit or marks on the pulley or nut, overtightened belt maybe but the shaft is around 20mm dia so you would think it could handle a little hit or over tightening ill post some pics for yous all to see

i priced a new alternator from Honda list price = $1800 mm that's not cheap

Rang around a few places as well see if i could find a generic alternator to suit apparently Mitsubishi has no listing for that type of alternator, must be a special Honda model, so we took the dimensions and specs of it and crossed matched it with a Denso alternator, i looked in the service Manuel and it appears to be the same one as it. Shows the dc2 having two different alternators (Mitsubishi and Denso) cost = $388

Ive ordered it, hope it all right guess only one way to find out

You can use any 96-01 B-series Altenators It should be the square plug instead of round.
