you saying that the brand new toda flywheel was not suitable for use and had to be machined?

    that sounds crazy!

It came brand new, and was not flat. So the cltuch was not grabbing on the flywheel, and it was bunnyhoping and stuff.

But generally they are sutiable for use... on street aswell.

they generally say not to machine flywheels to reduce the weight.. but machine them to make them flat?

maybe its better if you buy the balanced kit.. clutch and flywheel.. in that case is it the light weight one?

Well the toda clutch is an exedy clutch, so i'm not going to waste my money for a 4 letter word.

It's all good now... it's just the flywheel wasn't flat from new, when it should have been. I'll try ORC clutch and fly next time around.

                  Actually, no it doesn't...

What really happened is clear in your description of events.
The 2nd clutch install was not done correctly damaging the core of the friction disc on instalation.
This is evident in the clutch enguagement issues you have described.
You have then either convinced yourself (if you fit the clutch) or were silly enough to swallow the bullshit fed to you as to why you had a problem.
Your problem is either with yourself or your mechanic...
If I'm wrong, & you did it yourself, why are you up to clutch #3.
Same can be said if you paid to have it fitted,
In which case the issue aught to have been rectified before the car was returned to you.

I think most customers swallow the bullshit that mechanics say to them.. Most of us would have no reason not to.

thank you for clarifying that for us toda. Its easier fighting with a crap mechanic if your informed... will be looking at a new clutch and flywheel soon... likely toda fly. not sure of clutch.. ????

btw, can a old clutch fail and damage stuff? ie 150k km clutch? or do they generally deteriorate slowly and obviously and safely?

Did you change flywheel + new clutch? OR new flywheel with 2nd hand clutch?

New flywheel, and new clutch at IS motor racing. I believe Indy is a great mechanic, and he has never failed me before. Never heard of this before with his work. This new clutch has been perfect since i've had the flywheel machined with the new clutch - Edit: Clutch was machined and installed at ISMR..

It could have been ISMR, but it's OK... Toda aswell as other machine shops like JUN etc do screw up once in a while. It's only natural, you can't rule out that the part was 'faulty'.

Agree, Indy at IS is a good mechanic. Since you got it new, any warranty?
