    White smoke!

    Hey guys..

Before the Labour day track day @ Wakie, i changed from Castrol 5w-30 to Royal Purple 10w-40.

I noticed that coming out of the dog leg, large amounts of white smoke shooting out.

A baffled sump coudn't hurt i guess - but im just curious as to what was going on?

checked PCV valve lately? I would change that first. Also a baffle sump would be a good idea. Oil surge is baddddddddddd

it could be you valve stem seals, or your PCV valve, or you overfilled, or your rings...

to test - remove the PVC valve intake tube from the IM and plug the IM port. if it goes away, you are fine and just need a catch can!!

if it doesnt go away, your head might need some work...

and think about it - a why would a sump effect smoke? only if you overfilled you engine oil by WAY too much!

smoke comes from what is going on in the combustion chamber - "garbage in = garbage out"

What I've been told is that smoke coming out when exiting the dog leg into the right hander is usually a sign of surge. But I caveat that as I am not a mechanic, I'm only a lightbulb

Get a baffled sump anyway - couldn't hurt

I heard that aswell, but fatboyz and tinks made the point of - "why would white smoke coming out have anything to do with oil?"

Are you running a oil catch can? If not i would invest in one if your gonna be tracking in the future. You will be suprise of the amount of oil being burnt in the motor for one trackday.

the answer is : usually nothing.

but in this case - that is what we need to work out.

or we the easy route - forget working it out - just do something which makes it go away...

Shall be getting a (2nd hand) baffled sump.

My car hasn't burnt oil or coolant (it seems).

I have seen other DC2's doing the same thing from the same corner.. But its just strange it didnt happen last time.

it probably depends how full your oil is...

the fuller it is, the easier it is to get sucked up into the PCV system when the opil is sloshing around the sump a lot...
