The top and bottom tanks of the radiator are plastic and simply pressed to the metal core. At the pressed-on seam is usually where these OEM radiators fail and leak when they get old or subjected to very high pressures and temperatures.

The racing radiators for Hondas usually have two rows of cooling tubes in the core, thus doubling the thickness to around 36 to 40mm. Typically these units are all aluminum with the top and bottom aluminum tanks welded to the core. This greatly reduces the chances of failure under racing conditions (and greater safety for your engine).

For my JDM DC2R, I purchased a Koyo racing radiator. It is an all aluminum 36mm thick unit that fits the standard radiator mounts and allows the fitment of the standard thermo fans. Although a little tight (about 5mm spare), fitting was straight forward. I had to modify (bending and twisting) an electrical cable support mount on the left hand side of the radiator to give clearance for the air conditioning pipe running from the compressor to the condenser.

For the DC5R, a PWR radiator (and it’s made locally!) seems like a good idea and I image it should fit fine. As an alternate, one could try a Koyo unit. I must admit that when I “pop the hood” on my DC2R, that polished aluminum top tank of my racing radiator looks rather sexy. I’ll take some photos some time of my cars (I live in Rockhampton and my babies are in Brisbane) and display them.
Thanks for the info, I thought the Koyo Radiators were 53mm? or a smaller ones optional?

The local agent sent me this photo of a DC5 one. Not sure why they said it was half size..?

I'm relying on my memory a little here as I fitted the radiator more than 12 months ago, but I'll get the exact Koyo model of the radiator in my JDM DC2 and I'll measure the thickness of the core. It maybe 53mm and not 36mm. I notice that the Koyo listing for an Integra (94 to 01) suggests a 53mm unit, but I'll find out and post the details.

Ok have just been to visit PWR, The radiators are full size and are a single 40mm thick core, and everything bolts straight up to them.

After speaking to the centrax guys it would be apparent that a single core is better than multiple thinner cores and provide better cooling efficiency. ARC radiators for eg are a single core.

Definitely will be getting a radiator for my DC5, but abit undecided yet as to what I want. Might have to go and have a look at a PWR unit sometime in the near future.

I do like the idea of a 40mm thick core with a single row of tubes. Seems to flow air better. However, can still have 40mm cores with 2 rows (or sets) of tubes. Can be more effective at cooling but can have reduced air flow. Might nick the radiator out of my old tractor. 75mm thick core with 4 rows of tubes. Cool!

I need an exact number before i go to the dealer to get prices. I was talking to him today and he said once i have definite numbers then he will go to the boss and get us a good deal. So if you know anyone who wants one or if you want one please post your interest so that we can get the best price.

thats weird. u get this alot from manufacturers/distributors/retailers. i guess they don't understand the concept of a group buy. maybe just give them an estimate and tell them its just an estimate of numbers, because the numbers will vary according to the price/discount.

Its not weird, its business. You don't go giving someone a price if they are not going to guarantee you x amount of business, its the way business works. $50 or $100 isn't going to be the difference between buying something and not buying something, but if you can save 100$ then why not, thats all i am trying to do. If everyone is going to panzy around then i won't worry about it, simple as that.

Last thing i want is me going to distributor saying i want 10 radiators and then only 5ppl fork over the $$$$ and then i look like a dickhead.

i dont think its unreasonable for them to give you a quote on 5 or 10 without you guaranteeing you'll buy 5 or 10. but whatever. thanks for organising it.
