    VSS Problem.. Video

Hey guys, a while back my speedo needle stopped walking properly.. this saw it malfunctioning in every sense of the word which put a few extra kms on my dial, however after changing it, replacing it with genuine oem parts, it still isn't 100%. It is a basic plug n play sensor which i installed properly and is properly connected.

The new sensor however works to a certain point, up to 60km/h it is alright however when the car is accelerated past this point it can't handle it.

if anybody has any other reasonable theory's put them this way.. here is a video of the problem.

    WOAH! Thats crazy!

    Never seen that before!

Is it possible that theres a problem with the sensor in the diff maybe?

I learned just the other day from Jason that this is caused by the middle pin in the VSS corroding out. Replace the VSS.

Oh, jsut read that you have replaced it...

OK, check the connector and contacts are clean... if it is a new sensor take it back.

also pull the connector pin out of the connector attached to the wiring harnes, the pin can also corroding away as well

nah that wasn't me, the part should be alright though i would think, as it was brand new. i'll pul it all out again n check everything in the next few days but what else could it be? it is only when it revs up at which time the needle goes crazy... could there be anything loose behind the cluster?? what other areas could be damaged to cause this?

also when i had the problem first, my engine light started to turn on, followed by high idle and no vtec, which i then did an ecu test n the VSS was the only thing that came up..

i still think your issue is in the connector. also make sure that the VSS has been correcty seated into the gearbox.

Could it be a distributor problem, nto sure where i read it, but i recall someone else having the same issue and they needed a new distributor.

the distributor delivers your tacho reading and has nothing to do with the speedo, the vss delivers your speed and has nothing to do with the tacho

                              any other ideas?
also with this corroding pin idea, how is this replaced, does the whole wire have to be replaced or could i fix a new connector on myself?
