    Break-In Period.

Did you guys follow the manual and take it easy for the first 1000kms?

For those that did, what did you consider 'taking it easy'? (under 5k rpm?)

For those that didnt, Had any problems yet?

    I guess I'm a no...I don't always drive it hard...granny driving most of the time...but I didn't stick to staying under 5000rpms for the first 1500kms...

To give you an example I did a mountain run when I only had a few hundred kms on the car...car has just over 2000kms on it atm...so far no issues...

I'm a no as well. Apparently my brother was vtecing back from the dealership, racing his girlfriend in my car before I got it. When I got hold of the car it had 16km on the odometer.

Following that I went all the way to redline in the first few gears a couple of times in the first 1000km. I did a lot of winding open road driving during break in and tried to avoid full throttle and high RPM. I had my oil changed the first time after 500km though.

The car has 75000km on it now and I have had no problems at all.

there is a hybrid break in technique where you put load on the engine but you dont go high up into the rpm range. that being said, babying the motor has been a time old technique.

i VTEC'd my wifes new jazz with 50km on the clock,

i was redlining it at 200km and really never "took it easy"

the car has 4500 on it now and it feels fantastic

That is the way I have ran in new motors, drive it hard but not redline bouncing.
Also carry out oil change @ 500kms and then do the free 1,000km oil change again.

but jazz vtec's at 2800rpm bit hard not to vtec that little thing

i was always under the assumption the cars have already been broken in at the factory before being shipped out to the customer. But me being the paranoid person that I am would probably not vtec it for the first 5000km.

With 43kms on my car when I picked it up...I wouldn't be the least bit surprised that it was thrashed within those 43kms by who was behind the wheel of the car...

                          ok boys..
I got my motor back not too long ago..

I research breaking in high and low..

Generally consenus from most good tuners is to break it in hard (dont balme me if your motor blows up)...

but i broke my motor in pretty hard..

First 100kms is apparenelt the most critial..

I vtecced it quiet alot... however not WOT... just progessive to redline ..

make sure you complete as many 3rd gear pulls as you can..

After 100kms.. the car saw hill climbs etc.. with ocasional vtec..

At 500kms.. i drive the cars normally with vtec quiet often..

My motor was a rebuilt motor so crank and rods were already worn in slightly but with new bearings..
                          ************************************************** ******

                          Theory behind it:

when motor is honed it leaves cross hatchs in the walls.. The hatch holds oil for break in...

If you drive the car hard with loading and engine breaking.. it actually forces the rings to push out onto the wall of the cyclinder harder to wear out the hatching ... (rings are designed to push out with compression.. the edge is cut on an angle [research])

If you dont thrash it.. the hatching will wear out slowly without the exapnding of the rings... this will cause lower compression and buring oil problems in the future..

                          From my understanding...
yamaha and ferrari are broken in at factory with high rpm reving.. brroom brrooomm..

Hope this make sense.. this is what i gathered.. but it could be complete utter bs*

                          ************************************************** *******
                          On motor first crank..
Pull spark plugs out only and crank motor for 10-20 seconds to raise oil pressure..
then put plugs back in and start motor..

                          ************************************************** ******

                          Modified motor
Tune and break motor on dyno stright away after warm up...

                          no street driving..

Retune after motor has reached full compression

I really dont think you need to worry about breaking in the new K' series engines and other ones. Dealer told me that the engines are now run in at the honda factory so you dont have to worry about running it in.
